They're kidding, right? VH1 Classic will present a full hour of the English and German music videos for the 1984 hit "99 Luftballons," aka "99 Red Balloons," by German rock group Nena. The music video presentation, to air Sunday (2 p.m. EST), caps off the cable channel's "Pay to Play for Hurricane Katrina Relief," which raised over $200,000 for Mercy Corps, a humanitarian relief organization.

Does this mean we get to see Nena's hairy armpits, too?

I get it - people pay them to stop playing it, right?

What's next - the Yoko Ono Musical Hour or William Shatner's Music Revue?

Name one other song Nena did. I think they were a one-hit wonder.

I have fond memories of being mildly chemically altered on a camping trip, with a group of people all trying to remember lyrics to this dopey song. Everytime somebody remembered another verse, it was funnier than the last one.

It was an all-time classic dumb song, but the Germans thought it was poetry.

I just did an image search on Google. It looks like her pits are now shaved; however, she seems to have developed a "plumber problem".

Interesting that I never knew that. You know actually sometime ignorance is bliss. LOL. I always thought the song was this nice little dorky song now I know that everyone was just dupped again.

They were a one hit wonder but did have another music video from that era as a followup which MTV aired. I had to search AllMusic.com for the title.... it is called "Just a Dream." :-)

Apparently Nena and her friends let a bunch of red balloons float away. The floating balloon mass is mistaken for incoming missles by the scary cold war military industrial complex of death, and an automatic triggering of nuclear armageddeon ensues.

Somehow Nena survives and in the smoldering radioactive ashes of post apocolyptic Germany, she sees one of her troublemaking red balloons floating by, and laments for all that has been lost (including, apparently, underarm razors.)

At least, that's how I remember it.

Perhaps they should substite it using this version.

TITLE: 99 Dead Baboons" by Tim Cavanaugh, Tune 99 "Red Balloons"

Hello Bobby my old friend.
It's good to see you once again
How's your mother, how's your aunt?
How's your father's skin diving suit?
I've got something you should see
Back at my place; come with me
I've got some brand new furnishings
Plus 99 Dead Baboons

99 dead baboons
Sitting in my living room.
Not too functional it seems,
But quite a conversation piece.
This one's Jake; that one's Dinah;
There's big Ned in my recliner.
No it's not a lazy boy.
Can't you see it's a dead baboon?

How they got here I'm not sure;
Woke up one day, there they were.
Luckily i've got a lease
Allowing pets if they're deceased.
I'm just thankful they're not apes,
'Cuz apes would clash with the drapes.
No more napkins at my parties-
Wipe your hands on a dead baboon.

Dead baboons are lots of fun;
Playing water balloons I've always won.
You can keep your dead giraffes and swine-
I'll take dead baboons every time.
There's just one problem I have found:
It's finding Purina Dead Baboon Chow.
But what a happy snorkeling device...
With 99 dead baboons.
-Tim Cavanaugh

One of my fave lame lyrics ever. Never fails to make me smile, even in the German version. Also - look out for those "super-high-tech jet fighters"

hmm i admit to having this song on my ipod but only as a reminder of that ah-so-carefree 80s youth I had. I had no idea what the song was about- i just knew it was good to roller skate to. LOL
