Find a partner or grab your favorite beverage & listen to some Irish tunes .A couple of wave files - full-length, lilting, Irish melodies - they are so beautiful! I hope you can open them, or "save target as" to your hard drive and listen to them later.

Why Saint Patrick's Day?
Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.
In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

I'm off to bed now. I cannot keep my eyes open. I'm still pretty burnt from walking all week long. Must have covered 10,000 miles. :P

I was just too tired to party with you all last night. I might be around tonight, but I have to pack up my stuff and do a little more laundry before I drive back tomorrow.

That is a very interesting history. Glad he told his son to get out of russia.
Yeah, otherwise I would not be here or I would be a different person. B-) SEriously, I'm still trying to verify the story. If I'm able to, I'll call my grandmother tonite and wish her a happy birthday (she turned 91) and see if I could dig some more stuff out of her.

When I was a wee lad, I was exposed to Speed Racer and Star Blazers. Then, I watched Macross, Voltron, Patlabor, and a few others. As for films, I like Miyazaki's work among others.
I used to watch a lot of those too, I remember Robotech (Macross, there were three "chapters") and Voltron were fevorites. I remember my buddy and I drove home from school at a quick pace to watch them. B-) I also have a few Robotech (Macross chapter) comic books too.

One of the local indy stations started with Macross and then aired the remaining chapters. Thanks to that, and the two other indy stations, I became an anime fan. One of the indy stations also aired Spectre Man and would air Japanese sci-fi on weekends. One of the indy stations had a Saturday afternoon lineup titled "Kung Fu Theatre" which consisted to two martial arts movies back-to-back. Good times!

Yeah, one of the local (then) indy stations, picked up Robotech and Voltron, WPTT Channel 22 here in Pittsburgh. Sometimes the other indy (then) station, WPGH Channel 53 aired some stuff too. I miss those days too.
