Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

Yep thats where I got the idea. Such grenades are grewat for attacking around corners or through windows too.

Combustable cases offer the benifits of caseless rounds without the disadvantages (problems that plagued the HK G-11 rifle).

My next concept is a sniper rifle that fires a laser-guided bullet which homes in on an infrared laser (so as not to be visible to the naked eye).

I love what they call Maryland Crab Cakes but I'm not wild about crab legs, whole crab or lobster. Deviled crab (the breaded kind I used to get in a bar) were pretty good with some hot sauce on them.

For years now they have had a counter-sniper system installed in some vehicles that detect an oncoming bullet by radar and the system aims an automatic cannon (20 or 27mm) at the target and shoots back in about 2/5 of a second. The sniper doesn't even hardly have time to duck. They were using them in Bosnia ten years ago.

I've often wondered if Andy Kaufman isn't really dead, and being the kind of guy he was, it was just a huge hoax he's played (pretend to be dead for 30 or 40 some years then miraculously reappear and have a big laugh).

He was the BEST Elvis impersonator ever.

I almost forgot about Andy's Elvis impersonations. You are right, he was the best at that.

Awesome! I heard of such a system being used in Iraq but I did not know it really existed.

No it is not as advanced as some other sci-fi weapons. My aim was to make it plausible. Uses combustable cases (currently used for 120mm tank shells in real life). It shoots 5.7mm depleted uranium bullets. The grenade launcher is optional and is 20mm and fired from a 8 round rotary drum. Like the real-life OICW, the grenades can air-burst.

I know there was a Heckler & Koch rifle that did fire caseless ammo, the HK-11 I think, Im too lazy to get my Twilight 2000 books, that used a 4.7mm bullet.
