Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 300+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 164th place (with 992 CPUs - nearly 19,000 completed Work Units and 2,982,241 points)

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

What is this? Some symbols I recognize, more that I don't. Just curious.

I just noticed. We have to double our current points, to get to #99.. . durn... that's gonna take, like forever or something...

We average around 45,000 points/day. At this rate, it'll take us 2 1/2 months.

Aw crud. I just got a work unit with 10,000 frames. YIKES!

Looks like you won't be seeing any credits from me for a few days.

That sorta happened to me Yesterday. I must have had like 10 machines all check in at the same time plus the normal rollover. They were camping for a few days on those big 5way melts. The total pushed me to a personal best for the day over over 6k point. Of course, for today, I'll be lucky to hit a third of that. These big jobs really mess up daily points.

I got so tired of the abnormal shutdowns and not getting the extra SSE boosts that I found and modified this vbs script to "gracefully" restart the folding service. Later, I want to put some checking in to see if the abnormal shut down error is shown and then have the service auto restarted. Maybe some of you might find it helpful. BTW, it seems the 2106 and 7s are causing a lot more of these. Oh, well, here is the script. Just put it in a text file and call the file whatever.vbs. For dual processors, set up two files. One for each. Then run the restart script off (put on desk top and double click it) whenever you see the abnormal stoppage error. Also, I am not Guy Thomas. I left his name as credit for the original script.

I've not had any issues. I can't comment on why you're having those issues. I suppose if you're having issues letting it run for long periods, and this works for you, GREAT!. Sorry to hear you're having issues :(.

Of course, yesterday, I had a banner day.

The race is on. Who gets to 1,000,000 points first, me, or the DU? We're both predicted to hit that, sometime on the 21st.

I've got Wed, Thu, and until 4pm on Friday, to pad the stats, until the energy czars pull the plug on me until Monday...

This is going to be a ROUGH weekend, watching the stats.

I've got an 18,000 point lead right now, and up 4,000 on them for the day. Hopefully the overnights, will jump that up, to cover my weekend slump....

I've already trimmed my toenails and fingernails in preparation, so there will be less to bite, as the million mile mark approaches.

It's not with my pcs shutting down. It is with the folding program apparently shutting down and restarting in the non SSE boost mode. I understand that that slows down the folding process, so I restart the service and it picks back up. I only have a few pcs and the script helps me. I figured some of you with a lot of them could really take advantage of it. My view is that anytime we have a significant portion of our cpus running in non SSE mode, those are points we are loosing.

If you know of a better way to prevent the second start up from going into non optimized mode, please let me know. Thanks.

BTW, congratulations on a huge day!

I'm running a Pentium III 533MHz working on Tinker p1152 for the umpteenth time. Should I be seeing things about "SSE" in my log file? I read that Tinker cores WUs aren't optimized, so does SSE not apply to Tinkers?
I barely know what I'm asking. Just checking. =)

I can't find SSE in my log file either but things seem to be running ok so I'm not gonna worry about it.

On another note, congrats Malsua on an awesome 6000+ day!

Go, Klutz Go! Beat the DUmmies to a million.

and.......Guess who just broke 10,000 points a few minutes ago?!? WOO HOO!!

Congrats Malsua, that's a huge day by any measure.

Did those new CPUs kick in yet? We're still 6 CPUs short of 1,000.
