Why did the International Penal Court at The Hague keep the story silent? Why were Milosevics human rights denied him?
The ex-President of Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic, was found dead in his cell at the IPC complex in Scheveningen, The Hague, early this morning, yet it was Belgrade which broke the news, on B92 Radio, not the IPC authorities. Why the silence?
Mr. Milosevic was found lying dead on his bed by a guard at the IPC detention centre, where he was taken after being illegally kidnapped by NATO forces in 2001 and where upon arrival, his prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, declared he was guilty even before the trial had begun. This act of kidnapping was outside any forum of international law and contravened the law of Serbia and the Federal State of Yugoslavia in force at the time of the kidnapping. The question of the kidnap and the illegal detention at the Hague has never been addressed by the international community.
Slobodan Milosevic, 64, had had his request for medical treatment in Russia turned down by the IPC, although the doctors in the Netherlands were incapable of helping him in his condition - high blood pressure and heart problems. Why were his human rights denied him?
In the midst of his defence, after Carla del Pontes inept attempt at prosecution (many of her key witnesses turned out to be liars) Slobodan Milosevic was about to call some resounding names in international circles to the stand. Now, they will not have to go. How very convenient the death of Slobodan Milosevic is.
With the disappearance of an important witness in Milosevics trial, Milan Babic, through suicide, less than a week ago, the Hague detention centre could rightly be called Death Row and is evidently unfil to detain and protect prisoners.
Slobodan Milosevic, 1941 - 2006
Slobodan Milosevic was born in Pozarevac, Serbia, in 1941 and graduated as a lawyer in Belgrade. He worked in the State Gas Enterprise, Technogas, rising to be its General Manager and then became President of Beogradska Banka, before entering politics, rising to be the Head of the Belgrade, Serbian and Yugoslav Communist Parties. He was later a founding member of the Socialist Party of Serbia.
Democratically elected at President of Serbia, the countrys first democratic elections since the war, in 1989, he was re-elected in 1992 and 1997.
Caught up in the chaos during the implosion of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, due to the interference and direct intrusion of foreign powers and forces, Slobodan Milosevic will be remembered for his attempt to free his country of international terrorists, the Al-Qaeda-backed KLA and also for making the Dayton Peace Accord viable in Bosnia.
Forced from power during an illegal popular uprising on 5th October 2000, he was arrested on 1st April the following year without any formal charges having been brought, before being kidnapped and held illegally in The Hague, since when he has been successfully defending himself against Carla del Pontes prosecution team, whose main mission is to keep the pressure on one side while exonerating the true culprits for the Balkans mess, NATO and the Western powers, from their responsibility to stand trial.
Accused of a number of counts of crimes, it no longer matters what because under any norms of law in any civilised society, a person is deemed innocent until he is proven guilty. Carla del Ponte failed rotundly in her attempt to violate the legal profession and put Slobodan Milosevic behind bars after a conviction. The last laugh, and triumph, is his.
Let the good times roll.
[...] The tribunal said an autopsy would be conducted to establish cause of death, but there was no indication of suicide.
Zdenko Tomanovic, a lawyer for Mr Milosevic, says the autopsy should take place elsewhere as his client said he was being poisoned in the jail.
[...]
Mr Milosevic's brother Borislav was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying the war crimes court was "entirely responsible" for his death and that the UN could not be trusted to carry out an autopsy.
Poison claim
Mr Milosevic's lawyer Mr Tomanovic said he had made a formal request for the autopsy to be moved to Moscow "having in mind his claims yesterday that he was being poisoned in the jail".
However, the tribunal has refused the request saying an autopsy will be carried out by Dutch pathologists on Sunday morning.[...]
Of course they will find NOTHING. The results are already decided.
Uhhh...isn't it the job of the prosecutor to say the defendant is guilty...then to prove it?
Pravada is such a rag. Better to listen to the National Enquiror
The man the Americans are parading is not the real Saddam Hussein
But wait, there's more!
His human rights were not denied him. His request for Russian medical aid was simply showmanship. He did nothing to help himself. Even with high blood pressure he continued to chain smoke.
the doctors in the Netherlands were incapable of helping him in his condition
Red Herring! What Mr. Bancroft-Hinchey did write or did't in the past does not mean that the death of Milosevic was natural. You guys try to turn divert the attention from the topic.
I expect the next report to say , He died a natural death and after the autopsy they cremate him. I dont expect them to let anyone else get the body.
Dutch doctors and Dr Kevorkian have a lot in common, don't you know? I would advise old people not to get sick in the Netherlands.
My thought also.
We demand a full investigation of the Netherlands and the UN.
Poor guy was probably starved and tortured and forced to wear women's lingerie on his head.
The UN owes the world a full accounting! Where was Jimmy Carter and why didn't he alert the world to the atrocious treatment of this poor fellow?
And Amnesty International? Why weren't they supervising on a daily basis?
Did Slobodan Milosevic Have to Die? See a special report on 60 Minutes (Dan is working on creating all the official documents and get them faxed immediately. They may be fake, but they are accurate, ya know.]
Exactly. Keep in mind that this is the second high-ranking Serb found dead in a European jail in the last week. Milan Babic was found dead there Tuesday.
European treatment of prisoners makes Gitmo look like paradise.
Slobodan Milosovic tried for trying to save his country from Al Quaeda
He died of boredom, ralizing that his trial was entering its last decade.
There are a lot of questions, I would like answered definitely:
How did Milosevic die?
Were there war crimes and atrocities committed by him?
Were we right to remove him from power or did we fight on the wrong side of the war?
Was our fight a wrong headed attempt to appease Muslims or was Milosevic and crew the true aggressors?
I'm afraid with his death and presumably the end of the trial, that the real answers may never come to light.
What condition is that...alive?! Guess that's true because now he's dead.
True. For all I know, Milosevic was poisoned or for that matter, wasn't. If you want to make a case, you might want to call a less laughable witness.
Shermy, I should have pinged you to #6, as that posting was yours.
