New York -- A graduate student who was raped and strangled and then dumped along a desolate road was seen arguing with the bouncer now being questioned in her brutal killing, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.
Imette St. Guillen's killer had also stuffed a sock in the 24-year-old's mouth and wrapped her head with packaging tape before dumping the body, the official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because no one had been charged in the case.
St. Guillen, a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, was last seen alive early Feb. 25 at The Falls bar, a SoHo nightspot.
Initially, witnesses said she had walked out alone when the bar closed at 4 a.m., police said.
But the bar's owner and his lawyer came forward late last week saying he had ordered the bouncer, a 41-year-old parolee with an extensive criminal record, to toss her out when she complained she wasn't being allowed to finish a drink, the official said. The owner said he later overheard "some sort of arguing and a commotion" as the bouncer took her outside, the official said.
The official said investigators have cell phone records possibly linking the bouncer to the spot where St. Guillen was found. The records show his phone was used in the same vicinity about two hours before police responding to an anonymous 911 from a public phone discovered her naked and bound body.
On Sunday, police began questioning the bouncer, who has convictions for armed robbery and other crimes. He was being held on a parole violation while investigators did forensic testing on possible evidence collected while searching the bar and his home.

4 AM ?
Game, set, match.
Nothing good ever happens after midnight.
Alcohol and women alone is usually a bad idea. From what I have read about this guy, he doesn't fit any profile of someone who would do something this gruesome. Of course with all his aliases, who knows. Sad, very sad.
If this guy did it, I'm sure they'll have the goods on him. I don't see how the killer could have avoided leaving genetic evidence.
Have the authorities released her BAC level yet?
Do you think something like this happened to Natalie Halloway?
"To me, this would be out of character for him," Addie Harris said. "Even though he had a past record, it had nothing, no type of violence or anything in it that I know toward women."
I'm glad we got the "he was a good boy" quote. Wouldn't be a good journalism without it.
A reporter from New York was on Court TV yesterday. The bouncer is black, and he called the reporter to tell her that the police were following him and bothering him "because he was the only black that worked at the bar".
Playing the race card already?
People said the same thing about Ted Bundy.
Well, they said it until they discovered how many victims there were. I haven't read anything linking this crime to any others.
What a surprise. Too bad some of his previous victims weren't allowed to arm themselves and protect themselves.
Leave it to the professionals (I'm disgusted and outraged).
I'm not really following this case in any detail but I did hear this morning something about a cat hair being found - where I don't know - on him or her. The taping part of this makes me sicker than all the rest.
I just don't see how this guy could have done it and left only a hair to connect himself to the crime. I'm betting that they have loads of evidence, and they'll know for certain very soon whether he did it.
Closing time in NYC is 4AM. Of course, I knew places that served until we left (about 7), but I will not reveal any names.
The packing tape alone should reveal something. Was it cold enough for the bar bouncer to be wearing gloves after he left the bar? Now they can even track the fabric pattern of the gloves, but it's hard to prove because so common.
He sure sounds like a good suspect, though.
What are the chances the bouncer was wearing only one sock when police interviewed him..
Sounds like he's guilty. He'll be a muslim within a week and he will say that she used a "racial slur". Ya know, called him that name that can't be uttered.
