I believe it is the right thing to do -- Fred Phelps and his family (not affilliated with any Baptist organization) are attempting to disturb the peace by their actions while holding their targets hostage by the threat of civil lawsuits if they are somehow denied their "right" to protest.
The First Amendment does not recognize absolute freedom to do what we want, whenever we want, and it certainly does not recognize the right to be heard.

We're working towards moving and buying a house in or near Minden (NV) when the hub retires from the army. We like the weather here. But not the people or the politics. We're a definite minority where we live. Good choice! I think I could live in Nevada. Ever thought of early retirement? Just kidding!! Smarter to wait and plan for a good place. It will probably make you appreciate more where you decide to retire. I need to google Minden, I'm not familiar with that. Is there some reason you chose Minden?

Parents moved there. It's right near Carson City, the capitol. Minden is on the east side of Heavenly Valley near Lake Tahoe, down in the valley. Not too far down though, it's about 5000 ft. above sea level.

You know the government's bloated when people sell ways to get "free" money.
