Wild Bear Country...no high powered weapons....surprised he lasted as long as he did.

I agree. My dad was a hunter, and I used to go with him, but this makes me sick. Nutheads that believe Bambi is a documentary go out and annoy animals capable of tearing their head off, and guess what? Then, people decide there's something wrong with the animals and kill them. Saw a thing about a couple of bears getting killed by zoo officials after parents let their ten year old kid climb a wall, go over ten feet of separation space and stick his hand through a chain link fence.

Here's another hint. If a snake bites you, it's not the snake's fault.

I believe that was the only attack by a bear in that National Park's history.

But policy dictates that if a bear kills a person, it is to be terminated immediately.

The reason I think the girl is tragic is because I get that she didn't want to be there at all and was afraid of the bears. The man was in love with what he did and swore he would do it till he died. The woman was reluctant. It is a mystery why she then chose to be there with him. I guess she loved him.

I think he convinced himself he was an expert. He might have been except for that one time.

Yeah, I heard she went all to pieces.

Suicide by bear...

Or belief in his own invincibility.

During the movie, he rambles a lot about how much danger he's in. But his words lack conviction. He believes it could happen, but doesn't believe it WILL happen.

Bi-polar folks melting down on camera is never pretty. That show was like a train wreck, I wanted to look away and stop throwing stuff at the TV but was unable to.

The dog is still looking at me like I'm insane.

He was an idiot. His motto should have been: "Veni, Vidi, Feedi!".

I really dig the the director's other film I saw and this one didn't disappoint me either. It's just the fruitcake subject that gave me fits.

Well, that's the thing. I don't think "Grizzly Man" approves of its subject. I think the film's general sentiment is disapproval of Timothy Treadwell.

Herzog in his narration makes the point that while Treadwell believed wild nature was a wonderful, Disney-like paradise, Herzog himself believes that wild nature is chaotic, ugly, and murderous. In a sense, Herzog is using Treadwell as an example that proves his own beliefs.

Nature is red in tooth, fang, and claw. Mr. Treadwell didn't believe that so now he's dead.

What really chaps my hide is that he got an innocent young girl killed so he could show off and (most likely) get laid.

I'm glad the moron is dead, and it's just poetic justice that he's now bear scat.

I don't believe he deserved to die just because he was a loony. The woman was an adult who was capable of making her own choices. Some of the film he shot will never be duplicated unless you teach a bear how to run a camcorder...he did do something unique.

Oh it was unique alright. It was also supremely selfish and incredibly stupid.

It's really a good thing this moron died the way he did. He used to go around to classrooms full of little kids and tell them what a great idea what he was doing was.

Now when some young skull full of mush expresses interest in doing the same thing a grownup can replay Mr. Treadwells last moments complete with the screaming and sounds of him and his 'partner' being torn limb from limb.

That should dissuade all but the most intelligence challenged from following in his footsteps.

The only one I feel sorry for here is the bear. They shouldn't have shot him (or her as the case may be), they should have pinned a medal on it.

As for Mr. Treadwell I hope he's roasting in Hell for dragging along an impressionable young girl on a suicide mission just so he could dip his wick.

We rented the DVD a couple weeks ago. We have spent a lot of time in the wilderness and frequently camp and hike where bears are present. That guy was a nutcase who violated many of the rules of the National Parks and many of the known ways to conduct yourself around wild animals, including bear. There are few things more enjoyable than watching a grizzly fish for salmon in Alaska.

I think he's, like, dead or something.

But then, I'm no doctor.
