When I lived in Vegas, a co-worker and I both had our rear plates stolen (it's where the renewal sticker is located) and the lot they were parked in was in plain view of the downtown Metro Police station not 100 yards from their front door.
She had to pay for almost a full year because she only had about three months left. I had just gotten mine, so I only had to pay for a month.
To DIE for!!!
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Isn't that just typical!!
I am really out of my depth when it comes to the painting side of timber!!
sealant, maybe dye, then varnish - that's it!!
It was for them. Of course, now that area is all "Metro Courts" and has the jail, and all the court houses. The Federal court house is down the street about half a block, so it's all in the same area. I think they ripped out about 6 square blocks to put that thing up...
Government construction....
Here, do this, and you won't have to worry about your tags, anymore:
Go out and cut five or six "X" figures across the face of the tag with a razor blade or a very sharp knife. Anyone who tries to snatch your tag will only get a piece of it and they'll immediately realize that getting the rest and trying to puzzle it back together isn't worth the effort.
Then, next year, before you stick on the new tag, peel up as many of the old crusted-on tags from prior years as you can. Clean and dry the exposed surface thoroughly, affix the new tag, and burnish it down with you fingernail or a smooth, blunt object to ensure it adheres well. Finally, cut several "X" figures across the new tag with a razor blade.
This little extra effort pays dividends in peace of mind.
Well, they put a lot of people to work, both on the construction and again when they had to fill the offices, so it was a good thing. It's just in a bad spot because the downtown area is so congested.
I just put my tag on with hex nuts and Lok-Tite...
Brilliant!!
That's always the catch!!
It was bad when I worked downtown, but I'm sure it's an awful lot worse now. I wouldn't want to be a commuter...the bus system is best on the Strip, and within two or three blocks either side of it, because the buses run every 10 minutes, almost 24/7.
I'm just glad I don't have to put up with the smog there. I'll be up on a hill 35 miles away...
Sunday School. Our building is too small, and our congregation too large, to have it on Sunday, so we have classes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!
Good for you!!
And I'll be in a perfect position to watch the fireworks in the Valley...
I'm outta here for the night.
Ta!
Yeah, that's the other thing I was going to add. I was thinking you were primarily concerned with your registration sticker; a popular item for thieves. For the plate, itself, using oddball hardware to secure it is the next level of security. Even if you just use some other commonly available hardware like Hex-socket head screws, you're probably fine as most thieves only deal in slot- and philips-head fasteners. Once they get a look at your unusual hardware, they'll move along and try for an easier score somewhere else.
Now, if you want to up the ante without getting too expensive or exotic, TORX head fasteners are readily available at most larger hardware stores, and fewer people have the tools to drive/remove them than even own a set of allen wrenches.
The bottom line, though, is that anything you do to force a would-be thief to waste more time fooling around serves as a very good deterrent to his even getting started.
A lesson I learned the hard way. But it was a lesson I'll keep. I do whatever I can to make it ugly...I need to get a wheel and a spare, but I planned to do that at a junkyard. Maybe they'll even have the gadget I need to secure the spare under the truck...maybe.
Cool!!
