The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I was thinking the same thing. In certain galleries, you could charge a bundle for that.

Definitely arthouse worthy.

Especially if you call it "Fowl Mood" what with him licking his lips and such. ;-)

Funky cat. That must have been an odd picture to take.

Heh, I made a pot just after lunch. Had a cuppa then, so now I'll have another!

Did some work outside today, tearing down some stuff we'd put up in the back yard in advance of remodeling. It felt good to get out in the sunshine!

Cartman's got big lips! Looks like he's got on pink lipstick.
That would make an interesting ZOT graphic.

In other news...based on watching "Dora the Explorer" Luke has now taught himself to count to 40 in Spanish (we're not yet taking off points for accuracy).

He's also "teaching" his classmates. We asked if his teacher ever did anything in Spanish. She doesn't.

So, since he's got this interest, I'd like to encourage it. I'm looking for a Spanish language program, preferably computer based that we could do together.

Discuss.

I think Osage and LSA went to see "Eight Below"

Yes, we did!! The dogs were absolutely incredible to watch, and I was mesmerized when they were on the screen; the actors, not so much. It gets a little intense in some places (animals being animals, people in peril) but there is no sex, just a little kissin'.

I tend to antropomorphize my pets more than I should, so I spent a goodly portion of the movie quietly weeping. One thing I noticed is every time the dogs come on the screen, you tend to count them to make sure they are all there :-(

A lot of the movie is spent setting up how the dogs come to be left behind, and then another part is spent with the lead actor trying to get back to Antartica to rescue the dogs. IOW, while the dogs are 75% of the trailers, they are maybe 40-50% of the actual movie.

Hmmm. Let me do some checking. I know that middle and high school students use Rosetta Stone language programs. Don't know if it would work for younger kids. You could check out their website; it would likely give you that info.

Cool pic! It looks like he's got fake lips on.

The plastic bowl might be harboring that bacteria in tiny scratches, even though it's been washed. It sure sounds like it since you've had two animals come down with the same zits. It's a good thing you did away with it.

Thanks. I looked at their website and sent 'em an email asking what they have that might be age appropriate. He's currently reading at an upper 1st grade level and he's constantly doing math problems in his head...or asking us the answers.

Of course last night he said he wanted to be homeschooled so that he could watch TV when it rained...
