New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

|
Still round the corner there may wait |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
What?
Nuts.
Sneaky, sneaky...
There are twos coming up before too long. Make sure you're there!
Artificial Insemination?
You really like that joke, don't you?
And Ruthy has kids, she obviously doesn't need that sort of AI.
that don't mean I'll be takin' long hot showers with yuh...
maanthisniteshiftthingiesucks...
beg pardon?...
What is with this weather? Hail, this late at night? And thunder?
Yikes, it's loud!
Stay safe, y'all!
Shoulda pinged you to this, too!
So...if I do get offered the job, how does one go about giving notice at a job where one has barely worked? *sigh*
It's just going to be horrible, no matter how I look at it. The daughter (who I've mostly worked with and who hired me) is going to be out until Tuesday, so I'll have to talk to the boss man directly, and I don't think he'll take it at all well. And I guess I gotta just not worry about that. But I am. I can't get to sleep, I'm dreading it so much. Though I'm also dreading that my references snafu is gonna cost me the job. I mean...how dumb can you get? And what if that makes 'em doubt all the other stuff on my resume, even with corrected references?
Back to trying to sleep...
Wasn't that weird? Homer leaped on my lap, and of course, Gidget just barked her head off "Rrrr... That p*sses me off! I'll bite that storm!"
/sleepwalking.
Here it is, along with the Benchmade, and the Camillus:
The sheath is a vey nice Spec Ops brand, with lots of features, but in the now-uncool color of black. The knife itself is ... unique. The blade is double-tapered like a dagger, although the top edge is unsharpened. This makes for a light-but-thin blade. The "tire tread" handle covers a full-thickness tang. Even with a long blade, the knife is slightly butt-heavy. This gives the same effect as understeer in a race car.
The "tire treads" are hard plastic, and really seem to work. The handle shape is ergonomic, and, with the light blade, makes things quite maneuverable. There is a small "beak" at the bottom of the handle for breaking glass.
The Optima seems to be a pure fighting knife. With no full-thickness spine, one can't apply extra pressure when chopping, as you could with the Benchmade, Camillus, or Gerber. This is a killin' knife, with not much going for it in the utility/survival/kitchen category.
But for it's specialized purpose, it sure seems sweet.
mmmmmmmmmm.... killin' knife...
Mornin'
When I left theoldjob, I was very up-front with everyone. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you've done for me. You really went the extra mile for me, several times, and I appreciate it more than I can express. But I've been offered another opportunity, one I can't pass up, so I'm hereby tendering my resignation. I'd be more than happy to work out a two-week notice, so you can find just the right candidate to replace me."
And be prepared in case he tells you to take your notice and get the h*ll out of his store. Make sure you can afford to span the inancial gap between theoldjob and thenewjob.
That's really all you owe them, girlfriend ... heartfelt thanks and a two-week notice.
And about your references ... don't sweat it. If the prospective employer had been very bothered by it, you never would have heard from them; they would have simply passed over you and gone to the next candidate.
Morning... Rosie, did you get any sleep?
So, you know what kind of day it's going to be when the wife asks you at 6:00 a.m. to get something out of the ~attic~
That went okay, but I couldn't figger out why there were very few people at thegym, until I realized they were all in line at Starbucks. If I'd known before I placed the order how slow they were going to be today...
And I had to stop for gas. Truck was runnin' on empty. So I went to this one place and my gas card didn't work. (I have a zero balance on it). But it wouldn't let me cancel the transaction and kept saying "see cashier" which is never a brief encounter at this establishment.
So I went across the street to the other place and used my debit card.
When I finally got downtown, some goober in a 15-passenger van decided the best way to get directions was to straddle ~both~ entrances to the parking garage, put on his flashers and get out to talk to the security guard.
And, when I finally got to Fangorn, I realized my cell phone is still in the truck.
As an aside, it's the first day it's been warm enough that I left the overcoat in the truck. So it'll prolly rain.
~sigh~
At least it's Friday...
