Shoulda pinged you to this, too!
So...if I do get offered the job, how does one go about giving notice at a job where one has barely worked? *sigh*
It's just going to be horrible, no matter how I look at it. The daughter (who I've mostly worked with and who hired me) is going to be out until Tuesday, so I'll have to talk to the boss man directly, and I don't think he'll take it at all well. And I guess I gotta just not worry about that. But I am. I can't get to sleep, I'm dreading it so much. Though I'm also dreading that my references snafu is gonna cost me the job. I mean...how dumb can you get? And what if that makes 'em doubt all the other stuff on my resume, even with corrected references?
Back to trying to sleep...
When I left theoldjob, I was very up-front with everyone. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you've done for me. You really went the extra mile for me, several times, and I appreciate it more than I can express. But I've been offered another opportunity, one I can't pass up, so I'm hereby tendering my resignation. I'd be more than happy to work out a two-week notice, so you can find just the right candidate to replace me."
And be prepared in case he tells you to take your notice and get the h*ll out of his store. Make sure you can afford to span the inancial gap between theoldjob and thenewjob.
That's really all you owe them, girlfriend ... heartfelt thanks and a two-week notice.
And about your references ... don't sweat it. If the prospective employer had been very bothered by it, you never would have heard from them; they would have simply passed over you and gone to the next candidate.
