POLICE have been called to a local waterway at Cromer in Sydney's northern beaches area after receiving reports of a crocodile on the loose.

The reptile, which is believed to be a saltwater crocodile, is reportedly eating carp in a natural spring in an industrial unit block on South Creek Road.

It is reported to be about 50 to 60cm in length and is a protected species.

Police are working with the Australian Reptile Park and an attempt will be made to capture the crocodile tonight.

Once captured it will be placed in a suitable animal park. It is not yet known how the crocodile came to be in the waterway.

Um... 50-60 cm long? That would make it less than two feet long.

There is a new development not far from here, next summer is going to be interesting, when the pilgrims start having guests in their yards. The real estate agents don't go into much detail. It is standard procedure to dig small lakes in the developments, gators love small lakes and the little lap dogs that run around them.

Plenty of 10 and 12 footers, a few bigger, thousands of little guys. The little ones get eaten up if they get careless around daddy.
Gators don't get as big as the big crocs. No crocs in this part of the state, but a bunch hang out around the power plant in Homestead. I've heard of crocs being spotted here, never seen any personally. Cuba has some really wicked crocs, I'd love to go there with a camera.
