Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's 250+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 204th place, having reached more than 2,000,000 points!
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=910
FYI, there is also a FReeper group running inside BOINC for climate research.
I am staying with F@H, but if someone loves BOINC they should look it up.
Thank you for checking!
Yes, I have downloaded InCrease. Since I have a Tinker WU in progress, I haven't installed it yet. Someone said installing now might mess up a WU already started.
BTW, hopefully a dual processor is in my near future. :-)
Those checksum errors might simply be the result of the crashes. If you know what is causing the crashes then, well, fix that.
Do you have enough free disk space and RAM (it just needs 32MB) for the program to run? Have you tried setting the core priority to lowest possible, and dropping the percentage of CPU usage? (In XP screen saver version, right click the program window > Configure > Advanced tab.) Stop running other highly CPU intensive programs, like SETI@Home.
It might be a good idea to uninstall FAH (in Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs), then delete the Folding@Home folder in C:\Program Files to get rid of any bad work units, so you are starting completely from scratch. Then reinstall.
You can make sure that the CPU is not overheating with a program such as Motherboard Monitor (mirrors at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/).
If overclocking, scale back to stock.
If those fail, you might test your memory with memtest86, and your CPU with SuperPi or the Prime95 torture test, but those take a bit of time and work.
Anyway, that's my advice, worth every cent you paid for it.

My goal has been to be in the top 10% of all folders. When I first set the goal, I was at about 20%. Am now at 12.7%. Getting there!

I know. I looked into some of the earlier ones that I loaded on, and they're chewing along on some 200 and 400 pointers, that are taking about 15 - 20 days to complete.
Life's a ***** when you have to share your computers with people who actually do work on them :)
