Habenero!
Avery, Louisiana ^ | 02/19/2006 | LibKill

I just tried Tabasco's Habenero Sauce on a small pizza.

Folks, this stuff is hotter than perdition! About 2-3 times as hot as regular Tabasco.

It's great stuff, but be careful. It pours a lot easier than the original Tabasco and it is firey!

"Tabasco is for girly-men"

Tabasco 600-1200 scovilles, habenero Tabasco 7000-8000 scovilles

Blair's 5 A.M. Reserve (6,000,000 scoville units)

Blair Lazar has out done himself again! At 6,000,000 scoville units THIS IS THE HOTTEST YET!! Only 999 individually numbered and hand signed bottles will be produced but at $125 a bottle that's too pricey for me!

Front heat or back heat?

Tabasco is hot and predictable. Habanero is much hotter, but I have yet to find a consistent blend. If it's hotter, but you dilute it with sugar and fillers, it kinda defeats the purpose.

"The favorite of the US Navy is some back-of-the-shelf brand called Texas Pete."

Hey now, Texas Pete is made over in Winston. Tabasco is the back shelf brand in these parts.

Personally I like the vinegary salty hot sauces. Many people don't realize that the ridiculously hot sauces are really intended for commercial type cooking not table use (except for mean jokes of course). In a large batch of food the cook can add a teaspoon of concentrated heat without altering the flavor, like a quart of Tabasco would do.

I don't care for habanero--the extreme hotness overpowers the taste. My regular hot sauce is the cayenne-based Bulliard's Louisana Supreme Hot Sauce:

St. Augustine has a hot little secret–the Datil pepper. No one there talks much about the peppers. But if you get a chance to peek into the backyards of some of the city’s oldest families, you’ll see them growing. And, when you dine in one of St. Augustine’s many seafood restaurants, you’re apt to find bottles of datil pepper sauce on most of the tables.

I grow my own habeneros, dehydrate them and crush them.

I have sent them to F.R. members and will do so again next season - Late August.

If anybody wants some let me know by F.R. mail. I have to have a mailing address.

They are free. I even pay the postage.

I don't know if smoking them will get you high but if you eat enough of them they will set your arse on fire.

A hot arse.....doesn't sound too pleasant. Not in the way your talking about anyway! :) Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll pass. Let me know when you decide to grow something a bit milder! =:O

I bought a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce while on vacation in New Mexico 10 years or so ago. When we got back to Florida, my wife (ex now) and I went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant where our son worked as a waiter. My son knew that I always ordered squid rings and asked to have the marinara sauce spiced up a bit. This particular night he served me up 50% Daves with the marinara. AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yah, baby! Sriracha!!

Wonderful flavour, and just as hot as you want it to be.
