I received the follow interesting comparison in an email and thought it worth sharing ....
Sound familiar?
Maybe it's because Tokyo Hillary, Tokyo Harry, Tokyo Teddy, Tokyo Nancy, Tokyo John, Tokyo Howard, etc, have picked up the same message and are broadcasting it to our troops. The only difference is that they claim to support our troops before they demoralize them.
Come to think of it, Tokyo Rose used to tell the troops she was on their side.

Actually, as near as I can remember, Tokyo Rose was never apprehended. They did prosecute someone, I think, but they never determined if she was the "real" Tokyo Rose or not. This is all off the top of my head and I may be wrong, I've been wrong before!:)
And we have to remember that Rose at least worked for the Japenese and made no bones about it, she didn't pretend to be an American as the dimwits do.

You might want to do some research. For a start, there was no broadcaster on Radio Tokyo named "Tokyo Rose." There was Iva Toguri, who was coerced to broadcast under the name "Orphan Ann." She was an American of Japanese descent who'd been sent to take care of her grandmother, then got stuck in Japan when the war began. Her broadcasts were written by an American and an Australian, POWs who worked with her to slip in subversive messages. They were both cleared of charges after the war and, in fact, promoted. Iva was also cleared immediately after the war, but Walter Winchell wouldn't let it go and the government ended up convicting her on one charge, of broadcasting that some US ships had been sunk. She did five years or so as a model prisoner, then moved to Chicago where she worked (and I believe still does) at her family's store. She was pardoned by Gerald Ford,
I would also like to see if the "script" idea that is presented in the email has grounding in fact. Somehow, I get the feeling that this is just anothe "sounds true but ain't" email chain letter.
Believe me, I love the sentiment, but I'd rather know the comparison is made factually.

As I clearly noted I am not the originator of this ~ I simply offer it as an interesting observation.
I think most people are aware that during World War II, American soldiers dubbed the female broadcasters on Japanese radio, "Tokyo Rose." ~ that it was a name invented by the soldiers and applied to the female voice that droned propaganda intended to demoralize the troops day and night.
While the background information on Iva Toguri is very interesting, the main point of this comparison is actually the message and the technique used to deliver it.

Iva Toguri was convicted and sentenced to 10 years... She was then pardoned by President Ford in '77, I think.
The "real" Tokyo Rose was never found.

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. I remember the part about "Tokyo Rose" having been an American citizen...
