Researchers look for Bigfoot; zoologist skeptical
The Pantagraph - Bloomington-Normal, Illinois ^ | Tuesday, February 14, 2006 | By Sharon Wolfe

FUNKS GROVE - Researchers have been looking for Bigfoot in Funks Grove, but a local zoologist interested in the elusive creature's lore said he would be very surprised if one is found there.

A report last fall by people who said they saw a large hairy upright creature in a ditch in rural Shirley attracted a team of researchers from Searching for Bigfoot Inc. of Menlo Park, Calif.

Angelo Capparella, a professor at Illinois State University, said he also heard the report and talked to the people at the time.

He said that if there is a Bigfoot - a big if in his book - Central Illinois is not the place to find one. Even though Funks Grove is a wooded area, there just isn't much habitat locally to support or conceal a large primate, Capparella said.

"Illinois ranks 49th out of 50 in the amount of natural vegetation left," he said. Only Iowa has less.

"As a zoologist, it's hard to give a lot of credence," he said.

Well, I've read articles about DNA and cloning. All say that the DNA is fragmented and impure. ( ??? )

Listen: I've had enough of your garbage. The sooner they get around to cloning a half dog-half kangaroo freak of nature, the sooner they can clone me my very own pet t-rex.

And I promise you you'll be sorry when I get that t-rex.

I have a very interesting manuscript written by cryptozoologists from Duquense University, Pittsburgh, PA.

In the manuscript are detailed several sightings of "bigfoot" in the Pittsburgh area. Also detailed are sightings in the late '70's in Belle Township, Westmoreland County (my county), PA, of a bigfoot that made its presence known there for years.

The most interesting case in the manuscript is a sighting in North Union Township, near Uniontown, PA of a bigfoot that was seen by a PA state policeman as well as numerous other witnesses. This creature was shot several times with a .30-06 rifle with no effect on the creature.

The Native Americans consider a bigfoot to be a supernatural creature usually sighted before some catastrophic event.

The only explanation I have for bigfoot is that it must be a supernatural creature, of evidence of it existing would have been located by now.

Just an FYI.

Nice post... I've had the same thoughts.

I guess we are talking about ghosts(?)

Some of the reports that I've read mention a vision or sighting of a thing, that is silent and extremely fast and agile.

In some case it's loud and in others it is more silent than the resident white tail deer.

So the question might be, is it of a corporeal nature or not?

"Paranormal" people claim there is something there..... When will we learn the truth?

The excellent observations made in your post indicate why bigfoot is studied by cryptozoologists.

I too am very, very curious about these creatures. Too many have been sighted by reputable people with no reason to lie to not believe that there is not something out there...whether it can be proven or not.

To rephrase my earlier thought:

"So the question might be, is it of a corporeal nature or not? Now that is binary thinking.... so can it be both? Are there things in this world that are bodily, spirt and then both?"

"whether it can be proven or not."

You mention something very important that deals with empiricism. Science, empiricism, can't really speak to all things in this vast world. It is limited.

This post is for those that might happen to come across this thread and ask:

Do educated people believe this stuff?

Here is one for you; I actually met a student of his once and by chance. She had a respect for him definitely. But she didn't know what to make of BF.

Grover S. Krantz (1931-2002) - The controversial Washington State University anthropologist.

Here is another:

I would tend to agree based on the TV shows I have seen, the Big Foot secies seems to ba a woodland crewature and not adapted to praries.

Could there be another dimension that these creatures from where these creatures slip into and out of our world?

I'm only certain of one thing. We humans do not know everything about everything and probably never will.

And, I'm wondering where all the bigfoot detractors are on this thread. Usually they are out early, mocking the thread.

I'll tell you ...those are cool thoughts... I'm actually a theist so I think about things beyond our 3D.

One of my thoughts is that a heaven would have to be higher dimensions... I mean something more impressive than what we have now.

Also, sound and the visuals must be amp'ed up.

My thought is that communication might be telepathic.

Anyhow, so your ideas are interesting.

When I was studying math I observed all these professors solving proofs in R^6 adn so on... higher dimensions, numerically.. it's cool.

I had never thought of bigfoot as being a supernatural creature before. The people who wrote the manuscript proposed that as a possible theory. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Reports of bigfoot crossing a road and seeming to disappear into a hillside. Reports of bigfoot covering ground very quickly just by walking.

The episode I mentioned that happened in North Union Township near Uniontown, PA, which was witnessed by a state policeman also involved a UFO. The policeman saw the bigfoot creatures as well as the UFO and it is in his offical report. The UFO was sphere-shaped and very bright. The incident happened at night. The creatures came out of the UFO and eventually went back into it and they the UFO took off. When it took off, there was a bright sphere of light where the UFO had been. The light remained in place for a while. The state cop put his hand into the light and his hand was illuminated.

The creatures were headed towards the UFO when the owner of the farm where the UFO landed opened up on them with the .30-06 with armor-piercing bullets. The state cop was standing right beside him when the guy fired. The creature he hit roared but it didn't stop him. All of this is allegedly in the police report.

Very fasinating to me as this incident happened only about 20 miles away from me as the crow flies.

By the way this guys:

His name is Oliver, the supposed Humanzee - i.e. a hypothetical hybrid of a chimpanzee and a Human althought let's be clear I don't think such a hybrid has ever existed. It was only thought that one could exist... No one has done cross species hybrids since the DNA is not close enough and often the number of Chromosomes are different.

Funny you singled that out as a questionable fact in an article about Bigfoot.

We are having a nice Crypto conversation here... if you would, have a seat and listen in, nicely, or leave the hall. Thx.

Yeah, I went to look up article and journal publications on this but I couldn't find anything too concise.

I remember Iowa to have rolling hills and much vegatation.

IL. does have little vegetation and many open field farms. But I would think that a place like Nevada would have less natural vegetation.

Well, let's not get caught up in defining natural and visible vegetation.
