Anyone watch "Boston Legal" last night?
This (2/14/06) episode delved into liberal politics on several fronts (Catholic church/contraception, fear of abortion's sure demise due to a right-leaning court environment, "right-to-die" [it was a cat!], discrimination practiced by evil private organizations, who surely not only had a nefarious right-wing agenda, but manipulate the law to insure that they stay free of "mainstream" [read:liberal] thoughts on things like discrimination).
The central theme centered on a young girl who was violently and brutally raped, and who was denied anti-contraception medication at the Catholic hospital she was brought to (unconscious) after the event.
They portrayed the "bad guys" (the Catholic hospital and it's lawyer) quite skillfully, and you found yourself a little satisfied when the girl was awarded damages by the obviously sympathetic jury.
That moment, however, quickly dissipated when Candice Bergen informed fellow case litigator Julie Bowen that the girl had gone against previously highlighted "moral values" and opted for an abortion "while it is still legal".
The discrimination segment focused on a young girl, unable to smile after the effects of an auto accident and subsequent surgery, and a private school, quite popular and exclusive, who denied her admittance after an interview.
The head of the school, and several board members, were identified as lawyers, possessed of hubris every bit the equal of James Spanos' character. Spanos' character, however, was completely flummoxed, admitting that the law was all on the side of the school. He got around this by taking Denny Crane's advice of proclaiming victory even in defeat, and utilized the press to embarrass the school into doing his will.
The clear-cut message here was, obviously, private institutions must be brought to heel under full governmental regulation. They obviously cannot be trusted to be left to their own devices!
To cap it all off, the final segment featured Shatner calling Spanos a "DEMOCRAT!!!", and Spanos getting in the self-satified last word.
I can see this show following rather quickly the path of "Max Bickford". It started out well, but the lib writers, who obviously do not understand the concept of "learning curve", try yet again to utilize an otherwise good, entertaining show and attempt to cram the crap down our throats.
It didn't work for "Max Bickford", and it won't work for "Boston Legal".
I almost died the night he shot that salmon!
I love that show; we wouldn't DREAM of missing it.
Shatner doesn't have an ounce of talent in his body.Spock,Bones and Scotty carried that show 100%.Uhura wasn't bad either.
But Terri Garr in that cute little skirt.....
Completely agree.
They completely blew their agenda when the girl decided to have an abortion.
This show used to be entertaining with interesting characters and tolerable liberal content.
It is quickly becoming an annoying show that shoves the liberal agenda down your throat in a less than clever manner.
Spader! My error! I stand corrected!!!!!!!
CA....
I didn't realize that show was science fiction.
LOL. His toupees have improved over the years as well.
Actually, Shatner started out doing Shakespeare. And before "Trek," was know as an up and coming young actor, who turned in well received performances in "the Twilight Zone," "Judgment and Nuremburg," and "The Brothers Karamazov."
If anything, a lot of the mannerisms that people associate with him as "over the top" are actually Shakespearian mannerisms from his days in the theater.
In any case, "Boston Legal" jumped the shark on episode one.
One of my favorite shows, but last light's episode was rather boring and predictable.
I saw a flash of a newspaper headline but forgot what it was. I have the impression that it was something liberal.
I think this is one of the best shows on TV. Sometime you want to root for the downtrodden.
It was DeLay's mug shot and Spader said something about smiling being overrated.
Tonight's episode (3/14) was the worse I've seen in terms of Bush Bashing and long speeches from James Spader. At least they made the blonde attorney on trial for tax evasion sound like a bimbo.
I enjoy the "CRAZINESS" of Boston Legal despite it's constant leftists spewing by Spader, but that really cut into the heart and I I doubt I will watch the program again.
I know it's only a weekly entertainment program BUT some things cut deep with certain people and this was my waterloo.
