Please no flames--I am at my wits end and just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas.
I think you should head out to greener pastures. I have no idea how old you are but America is a big country. I wish you and your pets the best of luck.
And if you lose I'd be happy to write your local newspaper a letter identifying your lessor as Mr Scrooge.
Good luck!
After this thread slows down with the rhetoric, lets talk.
How long do you have to wait for the USPS to find your 'Express Mail'? How about having Corporate HQ send the paychecks Fed Ex to your work since getting them at a mailbox seems impossible right now? Just a thought.
Looks like some questions about the eviction could be addressed by some of these people:

That was my understanding, it takes at least 3 months to process an eviction. Maybe things are different in NO.
That's the way it was when I left, and it still probably is...which helps a bit if the guy's going to go through with the eviction (and probably jack the rent for the next tenant)
That's my take, someone up the thread mentioned that, housing at a premium and such, he's probably hoping to take in a couple hundred extra bucks a months.
jwalsh 07 in post 141 is basically correct. Indy Pendance in post 144 is partially correct, if you own the property, it takes 6 months for foreclosure, for rentals, it depends, normally, the 3 months is how long it takes to get thru the courts, then your out anyway because you created a cost to the landlord. I applaud you on your documentation. But, it appears the Landlord did give a grace period when learning of your circumstances. How long has it actually been from the time rent was due, till you tried to pay it>
I had something shipped from California a couple of years ago. After a couple of weeks I looked up the tracking information and discovered it had been returned to the vendor for an invalid delivery address, even though the delivery address was correct. They claimed they could not verify it had been returned and I told them to go look at the link THEY gave me to track it. I contacted them for months about returning my money but they could never verfiy it had been returned to them. I asked them to at least re-ship it and they said I'd have to pay for it again. I don't do business with them now, needless to say. The point is, tracking numbers just help verify that something is really lost, or so it seems. Hang in there!
Join the military.
I recall having a problem similar to yours with the USPS (US Psycho Service). I complianed about non-delivery of a package that had a USPS tracking number; the postal employee confided that the "premium" mail service with tracking numbers was meaningless - they just charge more for the same crappy service.
We've been lucky shipping via USPS, but that's our only option for military packages. Maybe APO addresses get high priority. Now, let's moan about airlines and lost baggage....
Rush this morning mentioned that Katrina survivors have so far gotten $240,000 per household Federal aid. Is this anywhere near the truth?
I think it's more likely with the housing shortage he thinks he can up the rent with a new tenant.
Sorry. No sympathy here. IB4TZ???
No address problems, no hurricane, and in the mid 90s, there was no war.
My daughter received all her packages within a couple weeks. We had no trouble. Knock on wood...
I would be more likely to suspect that $240,000 per household have been scammed by local and state officials, and that these numbers partially explain the recent price spike on vacation homes in Aspen.
Well, I know the reason the landlord wouldn't accept the rent assuming the rest of the story is true -- there are hundreds of people trying to get the same apt., and she's a bad luck story.
We can't tell whether she's telling the truth but she doesn't owe us any money so who cares?
Why sign on for trouble?
I bank out of town and have no direct deposit. Takes, on average, five days for my paycheck to post. Thankfully, I do not live paycheck to paycheck.
