President Clinton was rushed to a hospital early Friday morning after slipping and falling at the home of golf pro Greg Norman, hurting his right knee, the White House said.
At 1:45 a.m. EST Friday, Clinton was brought in an ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was brought in by ambulance so that his knee could be extended.
The president's personal doctor, Connie Mariano, was called and examined the president as he rode to the hospital.
White House Spokeswoman Mary Ellen Glynn said Clinton was feeling fine and was joking as he was brought into St. Mary's for tests.
"He's fine; he wasn't sedated at all," Glynn said. "It looks like the president will not be playing golf today."
Clinton, 50, was to have returned to Washington late on Saturday, but would probably go back later on Friday, Glynn said. A Friday morning speech on education scheduled in Jupiter, Florida, was canceled.
The president was in Hobe Sound, Florida, to play in a two-day tournament sponsored by Norman.
The two chatted late into the night at Norman's home. Clinton left about 1:20 a.m. EST Friday to go to a separate cottage on the estate where he was to sleep.
Clinton slipped on some steps while walking between buildings.
-snip-
The president was never under any anesthetic and there was no need for a transfer of power.

And was the press notified immediately that slick had fallen and couldn't get "it" or anything else up?
It wasn't buckshot in the knee was it? SHHHHHH IT"S CLINTON SEASON!! Where was Dick Cheney? LOL
Sorry P., but "Old News". Why is it relevant today?
I thought that was Monica?
I guess now I'm boycotting Greg Norman wines...
drunk or stoned again!

How many hours was it before the White House press corps was notified?!?!
Good God 1997???
WTF was the point of that?

Amazing, the number of people that don't get the point of your post. LOL, truly amazing.
And further.....
Norman played in the warm-up here in the DC area at Avenel, which was the week before the US Open that year at Congressional. The announcer at the tournament made a joking reference to Norman hosting the President and The Buffon's subsequent injury. Norman got so incensed and complained so vehemently they fired the announcer!
He's nothing but a bundle of dried sticks now... I bet a dust cloud formed when he hit the deck.
I heard that Cheney tripped him.
Fine. More for me. :) All of the reds are very good for the price.
He is faking - wage the dog -
People could save themselves a lot of trouble by actually reading a thread before making a comment, but who am I to point fingers, right? Did these rocket-scientists really think that if Clinton had just had an accident that required hospitaliztion I would have stuck it in chat? Incidently, there are also reports that in addition to the professional, um, entertainers, the Normans thoughtfully provided other "refreshments" besides wine and cigars that evening. My point, of course, is that there was a time when the press was aware that even presidents who were currently under criminal investigation occasionally needed to blow off some steam, no questions asked.
Slake my curiosity, what is the point of it?
I hope that quenches your slake.
