Another in a long line of Burnt City topics, if you can believe it. If you can't, check out the list below. I think the point of the article was supposed to be that the presence of turquoise indicates wide-ranging trade 5000 years ago.

Don't see anything obviously significant--there are turquoise deposits in Iran.

You can make the stuff at home with a pressure cooker.

Be very careful though ~ it's touchier than crank.

"They have those in the Southwest, New Mexico especially!..."

Most of the turquiose used by the Indians in the four corners region these days is imported from Australia, it's better quality too.

I have been following the links on Archaeologica for a while. Any idea whether this is relayed to a group of Tamil speakers, Indus Vally Civ, that are in the area.

I have been following this on some Indian Linguistics sites. Some of the stuff is interesting, some makes my wildest posts seem realistic.

The fact that Lapis Lazuli and Tin are found in Afghanistan and a Tamil variant is spoken in Baluchistan, attracted my interest.

We need an FR topic on the obsidian trade. Hmm... unless there already is one, in which case, why doesn't 'Civ get off his duff and ping everyone to it? ;')

Lapis lazuli trade was quite wide-ranging quite a while ago (found in prehistoric contexts).
