Hmmmmm from that article.......

"According to the source, an instrument was placed inside the car that raised the rear window after it went through pre-qualifying inspection to provide an aerodynamic advantage."

Since this isn't Knaus' first foray into the gray area of cheating he just may get suspended again. I wonder if the team will start the season minus 25 points?

That shakes up the Duels field some. All of the field-fillers that had a worse time than Texas Terry on Sunday get shifted to the other Duel.

Corrected and official 1st Duel lineup -
- This was set using the times of the fastest qualifier from Sunday, the remaining teams that finished in the "odd" positions of the top 35 in 2005 owners' points (1st, 3rd, and so on - note; Jeff Gordon, who would have been in this Duel, was the 2nd-fastest qualifier and is on the pole of the 2nd Duel), and the "odd"-fastest-qualifying (fastest, 3rd-fastest, so on) "field-fillers" (teams not in the top 35 in 2005 owners' points).
- This race will set the "inside" positions 3-39 (odd) for the Daytona 500 behind Jeff Burton with the finishing order of the remaining "top-35" teams and the 2 top-finishing field-fillers. Positions 40-42 will be filled by the 3 fastest-qualifying field-fillers that don't finish among the top 2 field-fillers in either Duel, and position 43 will be filled by either Terry Labonte (if he isn't already in the field) or the 4th-fastest-qualifying field-filler that didn't finish among the top 2 field-fillers in either Duel.

Bill Elliott (fastest field-filler in qualifying) and Hermie Sadler (3rd-fastest field-filler in qualifying) are locked in by qualifying speed, while Terry Labonte is locked in by virtue of being the most-recent Cup champ who is on a field-filler team. They can improve their starting positions by finishing among the top 2 field-fillers in this Duel.
* Denotes driver/team not in the top 35 in owners' points at the end of last year and not locked into the Daytona 500.
Kevin Lepage (5th-fastest field-filler in qualifying) can use his speed to make the Daytona 500 if one of the "guaranteed" drivers (Elliott, Sadler and Labonte in the 1st Duel, Travis Kvapil in the 2nd Duel) finishes among the top 2 field-fillers in his respective Duel.
Paul Menard (7th-fastest field-filler in qualifying) can use his speed to make the Daytona 500 if 3 of the "guaranteed" drivers finish among the top 2 field-fillers in their respective Duels.
Otherwise, the only way for these drivers to make the Daytona 500 is to finish among the top 2 field-fillers in this Duel.

I think Tony just may have stepped into the role of speaking for the drivers. There was an article the other day wondering who would finally step into Earnhardt's shoes since it seems to be needed these days.

From what I saw the offenders were the younger drivers Kyle Busch and Vickers who were driving wildly. Edwards should not have passed below the yellow the first time, but he was wrongly penalized for the second run below the yellow to avoid the pitting cars. Penalties almost as bad as the NFL lately.

I hope Jr is right about them calming down when points racing starts next week. However, based on last years restrictor plate races I'm not sure. The bump draft is exciting to watch when the guys who know how and when to do it are racing. But the last few years seem to have changed in the way some of them will do anything to pass or block.

Not a prob.

Upon further review (with some help from Jayski), I slightly fouled up the field-fillers that could still get in with their qualifying times. It's way too complicated to post, but I'll keep up with things Thursday.

David Hoots & Mike Helton should outlaw Bump-Drafting at all times, with appropriate repeat-offender penalties, up to and including, yanking the miscreant's hard-card.

I'd go along with that if they got rid of the restrictor plates. It's all a game of momentum management with the plates.

Something tells me the #5 is going to have a very difficult season if he doesn't calm down bigtime. Someone will Spencer him in short order like they did his big sister.

I'll say Daytona. LOl, I have little faith in the boy, family traits & all.

Your choice is probably right. things will reach the boiling point by Atlanta, and explode at bristol. If not, definitely by Martinsville.

Hamlin sure seemed to get a lot of help from tony, but he did have a damn strong car, and is a heck of a decent driver, especially for a rookie. He's been proving himself in the few Winston Cup races he's run, IMO.

NASCAR.com - Chad Knaus has been ejected from Daytona International Speedway for the duration of Speedweeks. Further penalties against the #48 for the illegal rear window and the #96 for the illegal carburetor modification will be announced after the Daytona 500.

The Grissom/Buschwhacker Past Champ rule in Busch is apparently now official - NASCAR Scene Daily is now reporting it as fact. A past Busch Series champ will be able to use the provisional only once every 8 races (H/T - Jayski). Unknown (mainly because NASCAR.com isn't carrying it) is whether it's 8 races on the schedule or 8 races that driver entered.
