My point is you have never met Brittany (I'm guessing). How do you know she is trashy?
The media and tabloids are not going to do a story on what a saint she is. Gosh, we see that and talk about that everyday on this forum. About how the media will not print a positive story on George W. The same goes with Brittany or any other celebrity.
"Brittany has high moral standards and is a good mom" = not a good story.
"Brittany caught drunk stumbling the stairs to her hotel room" = Stop the presses!!
I don't know about you but I have stumbled up stairs before so I can't say someone else is bad for doing it.

Freedom doesn't mean that collectively we give leave of common sense. Another poster was right. A mere fender bender would have deployed the driver airbad inches from the baby's head, and killed it. A sudden stop would have propelled the baby forward into the steering wheel and killed it.
Freedom comes with personal responsibility, and NO personal responsibility is greater than that to your child. You, sir, have taken leave of your senses!

We had a lot more rules in 1776 than we do today.Totally and utterly false. We have - just at the federal level - 180,000 pages in the federal register that did not exist in 1776. If you look at the state laws that didn't exist last year, last decade, etc. this at least doubles the the count. You need to think a bit before you come up with this nonsense.

From what I see, she has someone else in the car. Why couldn't that person lean over the seat and put the baby in the carseat?

Back in the Leave It To Beaver years airbags didn't deploy upon mere fender benders, which would have instantly killed Britney's baby.
That's a very good point. I'm not sure it convinces me to keep sticking our nose in her business - but it should make people think twice about trying to relive "the good old days".

I live on a dirt road in the country. Sometimes I let my 4 year old daughter sit on my lap and "drive". I guess I'm a horrible parent. Don't tell my daughter though; she thinks I'm the greatest.

I submit that it is more dangerous and stupid to feed your child a Happy Meal and sugar-ladened soft drink 4X a week than to do what BS did....if in fact it was an aberration in her motherly routine.

>Oh, come on. This "story" is nothing more than a bunch of self-righteous busybodies expressing faux outrage. What is the big deal? Such a non-story. Have any of these reporters EVER not buckled their kid? Man, I remember as a kid standing up in the front seat of my mothers car as we were going down the road. Of course she told me to sit, but really, from the breathlessness of all the reports you would think Spears held a knife to the kid's throat.<
BRAVO AND AMEN. Safety nazis at it again. She drove, according the paparazzi who followed her, one to two miles then put him back in the carseat. GAWD..

In a world where every day untold numbers of terrorists are plotting to kill as many men, women, and yes, little children as possible, where are the MSM's priorities?
From this link:
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. In the United States during 2002, 1,543 children age 14 years or younger died as occupants in motor vehicle crashes and about 227,000 were injured. Thats an average of 4 deaths and 622 injuries each day (NHTSA 2003a). Of the children age 4 years and younger who were fatally injured in 2002, 50% were unrestrained (NHTSA 2003a).
Something to keep in mind.

I hear you and agree with much of what you are saying. But when it comes to kids, it's a no brainer to chose safety over recklessness. Just because you have a kid doesn't mean you have the right to deliberately endanger it.
I have no problem with the child safety seat law. And like I said earlier, the deployment of airbags are lethal to small children sitting in the front seat on someone's lap.
It really blows me away that Britney was stupid enough to use the paparazzi chasing her as an excuse for putting her baby in her lap. At this rate, she's on her way to becoming a Darwin Award winner.

I meant that affected people's lives. If you read the diaries of the period, life was very controlled. Women were not allowed to do many things like vote, blacks were enslaved, dress codes were enforced, moral laws were rampant. There was no chance of people living in sin back then. Out of wedlock births could be punished. We have a lot more freedom today.

This woman is so yesterday...and those sagging sisters are going to need MAJOR uplifting surgery in a year or two.
I think this kind of stuff turns on most 14-olds, whose hormones have just kicked in. Maybe a few 20-somethings who are still hormonal.
