Q: About a year ago, I made the heart-wrenching decision to leave a great job, house, friends and family to move to Hawaii with my fiancé.
As part of this transition, I also chose to have my two beloved chow chow dogs put to sleep.
I adored those dogs, but I justified their sacrifice to the greater good of a successful relationship.
After six months, I am still tormented by memories of my dogs. The depths of anguish and loss make me think I got rid of them for purely selfish reasons, which is the kind of behavior I thought I reviled. I feel that I have gone from dog-lover to dog-killer in one trans-Pacific flight.
A: I am truly sorry you feel so wracked with guilt about your decision to put your dogs to sleep.

What was the name of that woman who drowned her kids in the car to be with her boyfriend?
Someone once asked me, would you give up your pets if the love of your life asked you to? I said "of course not" She was shocked that I would 'choose animals over a person'. I said "What person ~could~ be the love of my life and still ask this? My life with animals is a huge part of who I am."
I wouldn't want to be with a woman that can do that to a defenseless animal.
Those dogs would have done anything for her and she greased them.
Man this is really disgusting.
funnyyyyy!
Couldn't you have taken the dogs, for your boys' sake?
"What was the name of that woman who drowned her kids in the car to be with her boyfriend?"
Susan Smith. A similar thought process, isn't it?
A few years ago I was taking care of a cat that I had adopted but was not overly fond of. In short, we had an uneasy truce in the apartment, but I was okay with it. When I met and got engaged to a woman who is deathly allergic to cats, I did a thorough search and found a cat lover who adored Oliver and gave him a wonderful home.
My question: What's wrong with me, that I couldn't just toss him out into the street or find a vet who could "take care of the problem" quietly? Am I a sap?
Oh, here's Oliver:
Couldn't you just pinch him?
I agree. I might bump off a girlfriend because she didn't like my animals...but to kill innocent pets...that's sick. :)
Human babies are not born self-aware, or capable of grasping that they exist over time. They are not persons (therefore)the life of a newborn is of less value than the life of a pig, a dog, or a chimpanzee. Peter Singer 1979
I agree with you. I cannot even be friends with people who do not like animals, who do not understand my feelings for my pets or, who my dogs dislike. I have found that most often than not, if my dogs don't like a specific person, this person turns out to be not worthy of my trust, let alone my friendship. So, love me, love my dog, or get out of my life!!!!
When people take on a pet they make a committment to care for that animal to the best of their ability. There was no need to have these animals put to sleep when other options were available.
What some women will do for a man---unbelievable.
So true, when the world is against you the only one you can count on for unconditional love is your dog.
Loyalty 4-ever!
And telling her to get another pet? Is that woman crazy??
LOL!
YUCKY FREAKS - PING!!
Yeah, I guess you're right. You know, when I was about 16 I used to know a kid who would put little kittens, just born, under the back wheels of his car and peel out smearing them all over the road. He said much the same thing, "Who cares, they're only cats".
Steve? Is that you?
