Grizzly Man
The Discovery Channel ^ | Feb. 3 2006 | n/a

Timothy Treadwell, tireless and passionate advocate for grizzly bears, was killed in October 2003 by the beast he so fervently adored and tried to protect. His remains, along with those of his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, were discovered near their campsite in Alaska's Katmai National Park and Preserve. They had been mauled and devoured by a grizzly, the first known victims of a bear attack in the park. The bear suspected of the killings was later shot by park officials.

Director Werner Herzog's film uses Treadwell's own startling documentary footage to paint a nuanced portrait of this complex and compelling figure while exploring larger questions about the uneasy relationship between man and nature. Discovery Docs, Discovery Channel's theatrical documentary unit, has partnered with Lions Gate Entertainment's new feature-length documentary unit to co-produce Grizzly Man.

At the heart of Grizzly Man is the spectacular footage of enormous grizzlies hunting, playing and fighting just feet from Treadwell and his camera. Treadwell shot these scenes over his last four visits to the Alaskan wilderness, apparently with the intention of creating a wildlife documentary. Even more fascinating, though, are the times Treadwell turns the camera on himself, alternately testifying to his almost religious love for the grizzlies and revealing less attractive, all too human emotions, including vanity, rage, paranoia and loneliness.

"I am still waiting to see who the Freeper will be that owns up to sending the letter about feeding more Libs and Dems to bears, and raising more grizzlies to ship off to Berkeley..."

Dude, that was priceless! My wife said the same thing!

This looks more like a mocumentary to me--like "Best in Show" or "Waiting for Guffman". A lot of things don't look right to me in this documentary. I spend 2 weeks in the AK bush every year and none of my partners nor myself look so fresh after the first few days. We all look greasy, weather beaten and worn. Here are some thoughts.

No autopsy photograph. No audio tape. Both people cremated (untraceable). No still photos.

Why was all the footage recent?

Re: the touching scene with the watch, how could it look so good? Talk about taking a licking!

His clothes were never dirty, or never looked worn. He was always clean shaven. If he was out in the bush for so long, why wasn't his face weather beaten?

The people interviewed in the movie looked like posed, comic actors. Even the coroner looked and acted like a goof.

It's entirely possible that the documentary maker simply didn't know what he was doing, but then again, these lefties never make fun of their own. I'll look at GMan again, but I'm not convinced it isn't a spoof.

Yes, you're right, you can't post pictures right off your computer.
The image must be stored at a place on the internet that will let you have some storage and bandwidth.
Go to an online site, like PhotoBucket, where you can upload and store your image.
The site is free and you get a lot of storage and bandwidth.
At PhotoBucket, you'll find a place to upload pictures from your computer.
When you want to post an image, copy the info in the "TAG" option of the picture you saved.
Paste it in your post.

Or you can simply "hotlink" an on line image.
1. Write: <img src="name">
2. In the " ", type in the image's location.
3. Paste into your post.

Some folks don't appreciate their bandwidth being used by other folks, and will substitute other pictures, so hot linking can be risky.
Hope this helps! :)

Timothy Treadwell may have been titled many things like "idiot, moron, etc." but apparently people do not see things for what they really are. First of all, he was a victim of drug and alcoholic abuse. There are some people in this world that just do not fit in. I, myself, can understand Timothy. I too have emotional problems and do not fit in to society. I am very in "tune" with nature. If you happen to notice his birthdate - April 29, 1957 - he is a Taurus. Tauruses are very "down to earth" people, very emotional and desperately in need of love. Something that surprised me - I was born April 23, 1957, just 6 days before Timothy - could there be something to astrology? We are all different, in our own special ways, that doesn't mean we are "insane, idiots, morons". We are just singled out by the government and made to look that way - just because we are different - apparently, we don't fit the "mold". As far as I am concerned, you can keep your sickening opinions to yourselves.

Back away from the bong, dude.

BTW: Nobody is a "victim" of their own abuse. Nobody put a gun to your head to take the first drink or put the needle in your arm.

That victim crap is a copout. You must take responsibility for your actions or you will never make it. It will always be some outside force controlling your life, like, I'm a Taurus, blah, blah blah. We all have emtional problems to some degree, it's how we handle them. It's called life my dear little paranoid friend.

Ever had therapy by a mental health facility? Ever had shock therapy? Have you ever been desensitized? Maybe you should try it sometime and find out what it feels like. Look it up on the internet - "Devastating Affects of Shock Therapy". Maybe then you'll understand what the real world is all about. Perhaps a visit to a mental institution is in order. Wake up to reality! If you are not an idiot they will turn you into one.

First of all I'm not a dude. Secondly, I don't use a bong. Apparently, you do. You obviously support the drug and alcohol world. No thank you! I was referring to the long term affects of what drugs and alcohol can do to a person's mind. My son-in-law smokes marijuana on a regular basis and he is a total idiot - he thinks there are "evil spirits" running through his apartment, that he can communicate with these things and that the voices he hears is God. He worships marijuana and thinks marijuana is a gift from God. Now who's the real idiot?

Discovery played an encore during the past weekend.

Animal Rights Activists play such a double standard. In regards to dangerous animals, they say we shouldn't apply human values to them. (i.e. if a shark chomps your arm, its just nature, don't judge sharks).

However, if human development threatens wildlife, the Greens say "Cute bunnies are going to die."

Well, in fact, I work for a Mental Health Association and have visited many mental institutions. You have no idea what Mr. Treadwell's diagnosis is but insist on projecting your own "emotional problems" on him. I would recommend you sit back and take a very deep breath and focus on your own issues.
