OK, new thread for the next week.

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 550 processors and 232 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over a 40 computers now from GetLoaded.com, a trucking support website, all contributing while their owners ply our freeways keeping the nation moving.

New members of the week include:

Mike_Medved (Thank you very much for your support)
Zach_Erskine
Route66
OldsDon'tFloat (who is this!? - can't link to a FR screen name. Must be from MA)
glockrocks
Mrs_1066AD (thanks for the family involvement)
Thom_Pain
Dplowdude
Egon
holly_go_rightly
c505ber
Derllak (award for the fastest new folder, streaking up the boards)(Fastest Folding Streaker Award?)

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 145 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of folders for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 326. We will be in the Top 300 on Wednesday!

As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:

Top 300 by February
Top 250 by the end of the February

We have 1,000,000 points so far and have folded over 8,030 WU. We will soon reach an exalted mark of folding a million points per month, each and every month! Fantastic!

Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.

This is a work in progress, so you'll have to bear with any issues.

Here's a link to the zip file.

It contains two files: fah.asp (the actual brains of the outfit), and fah.xml (the data structure that contains particulars of the CPUs doing the folding).

There are two methods for handling the unitinfo.txt files: either locally (to the file system) or via HTTP. The "HTTP://" in front of the server's PATH node in the XML indicates to the applet which method to use to retrieve the file.

In some cases, I've had to jump through some hoops to get the files where I can read them in an uncached state. As these are quite possibly localized issues to my setup here, I haven't elaborated-- but I can certainly go into that if someone runs into similar issues.

I'm using this applet to pull from a variety of CPUs, both internal and external to my network, on both Win and Linux OSs.

Let me know if you guys come up with any cool additions/modifications. Have fun, and happy geeking!

I'm having trouble, it's not loading properly.

I tried un installing the program, and tried to re install using Fanfan1, and I just get that same page (still says Fanfan) with the error results I reported in post # 51 and 52.

I'm running on Firefox, could this be part of the problem?

Try uninstalling the with add/remove programs utility in the control panel and then deleting the fold@home folder from C:\Program Files. After which you should empty your recyle bin and reboot. Now re-install the folding@home.

Team 36120.

Firefox is not the problem because it has nothing to do with the running of F@H. The problem is within F@H.

Sunday's production was over 39,000 points. That's tremendous!

However ...

The three am update was 11,076 points. So far today we have generated 28,068 points. That really bodes well for our ability to pop into the Top 40.

Keep 'em coming everyone! Please ask if you need more info on Folding@Home. We will all gladly help you get started.

Hi,
could I ask for some more help?

I have cleaned up the old file, (I think), and have downloaded the program again.
I do have the red flower icon on the bottom right.
When I hold the cursor over it, it says F@H:Loading.
My F@H display page shows the following info....

Donator Fanfan1

Team Number 36120

Finished WU's 0

Waiting for core
step #36

At the bottom of the screen, it shows......

Could not connect to Secondary Assignment Server

Does this sound correct to you so far?

Waiting for core

This means that the program is attempting to reach out to the Stanford servers and download a "sub" applet that runs within the main program. Think of the core as the "formula on how to decode a protein". The core does the heavy lifting, the rest of the program is housekeeping, scoring, etc. The cores are different for different series' of proteins so it checks if you have the core for the protein it downloaded and if not, it goes and gets it.

Sounds like you were able to get the protein information, but it's failing to get the core. They come from different web servers, so one could be down BUT you had this problem earlier and I added an additional machine today and downloaded a new core no fuss no muss. I'm leaning towards a firewall or proxy issue. On the configure tab, there is a checkbox "Use Internet Explorer connection settings". Which ever way it is checked, do the opposite, close the program and start it again. That may fix it.

If it's a firewall issue, that's a little bit more complicated depending on how you're configured.

I would suspect a firewall configuration issue, also.

You do have one, fanfan?

Which brand is it?

Have you tried rebooting?...There is at least one reported server down and this MAY be the problem. Also, can you confirm your operating system? I assume you downloaded the XP 5.03 and not the Beta?

Try shutting them all down and see what happens. If that works, you'll have to turn them on one by one to see where your problem is. If you have Norton Internet Security, not just Norton AV, I'd start there.
