Just in case any Cars fans here have not heard, the Cars have reunited without Ric Ocassek (if you can believe it). If Occasek were involved I could enjoy the show even though Ben Orr (bass player and singer) passed away back in 2000. However, the only original members here are Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes. These two are very much a part of the Cars' sound, but Occasek was the main writer and "image" of the band. Rungren is really doing his best to imitate Occasek in the song that is posted on the www.Melodicrock.com web site.
I think it is a money grab, pure and simple. Any other people here agree / disagree?

Rungren is a good musician in his own right. So, I would give it a shot.

I'm a huge fan of Todd Rundgren, and I really like The Cars, but this just doesn't sound that good. Rundgren has a genius for songwriting, but he has just plain terrible judgement.

And by the way, I'm a Capitalist and am therefore all for a money grab. If they can get it, go for it.

I dunno. Ric Ocasek was a nasty piece of goods, but he was an original. Dunno if he could truly be replaced.

No, it just wouldn't be the same. Didn't know that about Ben Orr. Bummer.

Agree.
Without the essense of Ric Ocasek, the 'Cars' is counterfeit. Bad enough Ben Orr isn't around.

Funny. I was just sittin here wondering if the band I'm listening to would ever get back together.
No, not the Cars. Talking Heads.
No doubt Byrne has got Ocasek out weirded!

You've got to be kidding me. Ric Ocasek WAS The Cars!
The Cars were my favorite band during the late 70s to early 80s. Not a bad track on any of their albums. I even liked "Door To Door." But I just can't imagine them with a different lead singer.

I think an original band composed of Rundgren and two members of The Cars would have gotten plenty of press by itself, without resorting to using the Cars name. They could do Cars stuff and Rundgren stuff in concert, and record originals under their new name. What's not to like? I don't think a lot of thought went into this.
BTW, Rundgren's band Utopia made some very good records.
