Welcome to the OFFICIAL Friday/Saturday Night Singles' Thread
January 27th and 28th, 2006
"We're Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight...Let's Celebrate...It's All Right!"
In store for tonight:
I read a fascinating article in the February 2006 issue of Popular Mechanics entitled "The Flying Luxury Hotel." Rather than a cruise ship, it functions as a cruise craft -- but the potential for this new aircraft also extends to military and commercial freighting applications. More information can be found here. Let me know what you think!
Further thoughts:
What is/are your pet peeve(s)?

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots
conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse,
to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

Thanks, the nice thing about being a grouch is that I can easily generate long lists of pet peeves. You can imagine what fun that makes me at a party.

I was in Portland when Mt. St. Helens erupted, too! I remember it, but only vaguely. I was only about three - I just remember we weren't allowed to play on the swings because of the ash, and I was furious. I also remember seing people jogging but with hankerchiefs tied over their faces, again because of the ash.

Has anyone heard the story about Mozart at some gathering (somewhere in Vienna I suppose)and man wanted to introduce his young son to him. The man sat the boy on Mozart's lap. He was very impressed with the child and said that this boy will be great someday. The boy was Beethoven.

My problem is that I did the big move last year...and haven't found a permanent job here. I had a temp one, but it ended in December, and since then...nothing.
At this point, I have no real ties here except with my roommate (a fellow FReeper), and she's leaving soon as she's getting married (to anopther FReeper), so I'm going to take my chances again.
Maybe this time, things will work out!

I have had a problem forever...with my pc and it's sound card. Tonight it seems I'm overcoming it in some aspects. I'm having a ball just listening to music. It amazes me to listen to opera, classical and hear the nuances the crisp clear beauty. Mozart and the obvious genius. Then of course, I go off to some LeeAnn Rimes...:-)

I had never heard that story before...here's something I found about it:
In 1787, Beethoven went to Vienna, a noted musical center, where then Count Waldstein engaged Beethoven was piano teacher and became his friend and patron. Beethoven must have felt a little out of his depth for he was clumsy and stocky; his manners were loutish, his black hair unruly and he habitually wore an expression of surliness on his swarthy face.
It was here that Beethoven met the great Mozart, who was dapper and sophisticated. He received the boy doubtfully, but once Beethoven started playing the piano his talent was evident. "Watch this lad," Mozart reported. "Some day he will force the world to talk about him."

No complaints,it is supposed to be in the mid 40s again tomorrow. One of the oddest Januarys I can remember.
Hope that global warming thingy kicks it up a little so that 50s-60s is the norm.

Almost all music is good! ;-)
I make an exception for my upstairs neighbor's "music" of choice. I'm pretty openminded where music is concerned, but...

Woman! You were 3? *head sinks into desk*
I had graduated school (high school) moved to Montana, then to Portlant after meeting a guy....I was 21 I think. I left Portland because I didn't have to stay there and leave with that junk, the ash that is. But So Cal wasn't much better. So, where do you live now?
To: Amityschild
Then of course, I go off to some LeeAnn Rimes...: It probably wouldn't be this way... :)

This has been a wonderful January here in St. Louis, too -- it seems that I haven't had to wear a coat very often, even at night.

Heading to Washington (state), if all goes well. Oh dear child, you do know there are liberals there?
Are you an IT person? We need to talk. I have a dear friend who is very experienced in that area, originally out of Seattle, moved to the midwest for the job market. Don't make any big jumps until we talk ok? I know it's rough, hang in there.
Do you have a lot of family? Where are they, VT?
To: Amityschild
I've been in northern Colorado for the past eight months...not really long enough to make it home.
Vermont is home...maybe always will be. I have to avoid the FR threads on the state, though. The area I'm from is very conservative, very patriotic - extremely high percentage of kids go into the military, just as one example - but the politics are controlled mostly by leftists who moved in knowing they could sway things in such a small state. It really irks me...they're making it a harder and harder place to do business in, which means jobs are moving elsewhere. Among other things.
OK, I'll stop ranting. ;-)
To: scott7278
Very tired, actually. Still trying to heal and having difficulty sleeping due to discomfort.
Otherwise, everything is bright and sunny.
To: scott7278
..that's it Scott.
The details seem to make more sense in your version.
The music professor who told the version I heard in class was probably using "artistic license"

If this is global warming, bring it on! I'm loving this weather.
To: ozarkgirl
I have a place to go...it's pretty well settled. Yes, I know there are liberals there, but there are conservatives, too, including my brother and his wife and her (extensive) family.
And I have some connections already. I'm pretty excited about it all, actually!
