I swear by Zycam. It works best if you take it as directed when you first feel a cold coming on. Since you're well into your cold it can/will shorten the duration.

Ok Dog, this is going to sound nasty, but it's a very ancient recipe and really works if you have congestion.

Grate up some ginger root and a little fresh garlic. Add honey and steep like tea. Drink several times a day. You should soon be coughing up loads of gunk! ( pleasant, huh?)

Don't try to cheat and use garlic or ginger powders! It's got to be the real stuff!

Are you coughing up anything or blowing anything out of your nose? If there is *any* color to it, usually yellow, then you have a bacterial infection either in your sinuses or your bronchial tubes. All the Zycam, Thera-flu Vicks etc. in the drug store is not going to help you. You need antibiotics and a saline nasal wash. Trust me, I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night and I know this stuff.

Castor oil may work. I can attest to the fact that Milk of Magnesia cures the common cold and everything else. The nuns at my prep school kept a 2343-gallon jug of MoM on hand, gave us a huge dose before bed and by daybreak, health always returned.

So do that tonight. Then, startin g tomorrow morning, enjoy pepper in HOT scotch with a lemon twist. Hot drinks of any kind are soothing. Vitamin C is great if you can get enough into your system. Try to find Vitamin C in powdered form, stir a tablespoonsful into water or juice (not hot in this case but lukewarm is OK) once per hour. All day. You cannot overdose on C.

And enjoy the Steelers tromping all over the opposition. That'll cheer you up!

echinacea (sp?) works BEFORE you get the cold full force. But they are right, take zinc to buld it up.

Thanks, I'm gonna have to try that! I've always just used Advil (Motrin) but it would be nice to take a little less of that. I keep the ibuprofen companies in business, that's for sure!

Your brother sounds like one of my brothers. You just gotta know how to deal with them. ;-)

I have told him that twice and he has ignored me, I think he doesn't want to go to the doctor.

Something is going around -- Our office is getting laid down a few people at a time.

Starts in chest or throat -- gets a little better after a week, then attacks again. So far no one has shaken and we have one person that has stayed sick on and off since Christmas.

Hot toddies -- heavy on the toddie!

Sounds familiar. A one-two punch. The second one way worse than the first. I thought last week I was getting over this.

I've been taking this stuff for at least 5 yrs now. Never have a cold or flu. Always keep it on hand. OBTW, it also works on just about any virus. EVEN WEST NILE VIRUS.

Sounds like you have what went through my family. We just thought we were over it and WHAM! it was back for a second try. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you probably won't feel great for a while. The tickle in my throat lasted forever.

Years ago when I was sick, I tried brandy. It worked really well and I could never figure out whether it actully did something or made me not care. I haven't done it in years but I sure have been tempted to; and BTW I am NOT a drinker, which is why I haven't done it much.

It's kind of a natural remedy. It's got some herbal stuff in it along with zinc and Vitamin C. You can find it at Wal-Mart (if you're inclned) or I've seen it in grocery store's in there medcine section.
