Brokeback Mountain Claims Big Four At The Golden Globes

Critically-acclaimed western Brokeback Mountain cleaned up at the Golden Globe Awards last night by claiming four top honors.

The controversial film, which has been banned from some cinemas for its gay themes, took home Best Movie (Drama), Best Screenplay and Best Song prizes at the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards, while Ang Lee picked up the night's Best Director honor from his hero Clint Eastwood.

And there were triple celebrations for Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line when Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix claimed the acting honors in the Comedy/Musical movie category and the film picked up the Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) prize.

The win cost Phoenix dear, however - he bet Witherspoon's husband Ryan Phillippe he wouldn't win a Golden Globe. The Crash star demanded payment as his pal took to the stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Meanwhile, there was a big upset for the stars of Desperate Housewives during the night's TV awards - all four Best Actress nominees from the show lost out to Mary Louise Parker, who plays a marijuana-selling desperate housewife on cable show Weeds.

But the stars of the hit show didn't miss out on a Best TV Show award - they scooped the coveted prize from Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, My Name is Earl, Entourage and Everybody Hates Chris - and the show's Felicity Huffman claimed the night's Best Actress (Drama) movie award for her role as a transgender man in Transamerica.

The big TV winner was acclaimed mini-series Empire Falls, which claimed two honors - Best Actor (Paul Neuman) and Best Miniseries/TV Movie.

The full list of awards is:

Movie Awards Best Score: John Williams MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA

Best Original Song: A Love that Will Never Grow Old by Emmylou Harris, Bernie Taupin and Gustavo Santaolalla -Brokeback Mountain

Best Movie (Comedy/Musical): Walk the Line

Best Movie (Drama):

TV Awards

Best Mini-series or TV Movie: Empire Falls

Best TV Series (Movie/Comedy): Desperate Housewives

Best TV Series (Drama): Lost

Cecil B Demille Award for Lifetime Achievement: Sir Anthony Hopkins

Too bad those globes aren't solid gold, cause they aren't making much money in the theaters.

After 6 weeks, only around 30,000,000 in the bank. Though it was cheap to make at only 14 million (much of that was the cost of Astroglide and hair gel).

Homosexuality, trans-whatevering, cheating spouses, drugs...and they wonder why we have an AIDS epidemic.

Considering the kinds of films that are getting publicity right now, it's all the more important for us to support films that reflect our own values. Some this as the Jim Elliot story, or the Elisabeth Elliot story...this one is told from a different perspective. This is told from the perspective of Steve Saint, son of Nate Saint, and from the perspective of the tribespeople.

END OF THE SPEAR

opens THIS FRIDAY nationwide.

It is an award winning film, an incredible true story (written about in 19 books to date) and it's worth your time and money.

VIEW THE TRAILER HERE

Opening weekend is critical for independant movies, so if you can possibly go see it this weekend, please do it!

Also, if you cannot find the theater in your area today, keep searching. Schedules are not usually posted until Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be in AMC, Cinemark and Regal theaters. TELL YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CHURCH...ping lists!

I plan to see it as soon as possible. And unless there is a missionary in a homosexual tryst in the movie, don't look for it to even be mentioned at the Oscars.

I agree, but I am glad that Walk the Line was recognized and that the two actors were also.

You know I am sorry but I saw Munich and did not see this anti-israel theme. What I saw was Palistinians kill some Israeli Olympians and the Israeli killing the hell out of them. What is anti Israel about that?

Too bad for the people who made the biopic of Truman Capote. Apparently, it just wasn't gay enough.

I don't know where these people get this stupid ideas. You know it amazes me that they ignore MSM when they lie about politics, but with entertainment when MSM lies about that they all believe it. You know what? because people believed what the MSM said about Munich, the movie bombed and that is sad because it was not anti-Israel.

Don't you get that MSM is against Israel so of course they are going to lie about the movie. Why do you think intelligent folks on this website got taken by the MSM on this movie. MSM is laughing because the movie failed.

Priming the pump for Hillary in 2008. If West Wing was Bubba's pop culture icon, then Commander-in-Chief will be Hillary's.

How's this show doing in the ratings?

Brokebutt Mountain...the story of two cowboys who liked each other so much they felt compelled to insert their penises into each other's rectums.

And it's all perfectly normal.

Those are just the "Over-Nights". Over-Nights consist of the top ten markets, which are notoriously left-leaning. Everything changes when the rest of the country factors in.

A year after their dissing of "Ther Passion," they heap on honors on a mediocre film with a gay theme. Imagine the same story with a woman as the predator. It would hardlly have been noticed. "Capote", on the other hand. deserves the attention. The main character was truly a grotestque and the actor captured him perfectly.

Considering the production and distribution costs, it has quite a ways to go before it breaks even.

It cost 14 million and it's already made 32 million. It's probably already profitable.

If this film doesn't wake up average American to what Hollywood is all about, then nothing will.

I saw Munich also. Went into the theatre expecting a piece of propaganda from Spielberg and the Islamo- Fascist sympathizers in Hollywood, but you know intended or not I didn’t see the movie that way. The Islamo-Fascist were shown as hypocritical, greasy, criminals with only a vague reason and understanding of why they were engaged in their terrorism. Eric Bana’s character was shown as an upright patriot for his country. An especially poignant scene was Avner’s(Eric Bana) Mother having a dialog with him and setting her wavering and weary Son on the right path by telling him why he was doing what he was doing. Do you get 5 minutes of pro-Palestinian drivel? but I wouldn’t exactly say Spielberg was endorsing their position. Michael Collins with Liam Neeson was a movie definitely endorsing terrorism through the glamorizing of the rise of the modern IRA and Shin Fein in Northern Ireland.

Nothing will. The average American does not watch movies. But young people do, and they idolize celebrities.
