The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Beat? Is Rosie being mean to you? Funny, she was always such a nice quiet sort when she lived here...

See... you just gotta work on bein' lazy. Me, I'd go hide. Many a Saturday morning I spent in bed while she was up and ready to seize the day.

<laughing> Not so's you'd notice.

You can stuff a cucumber, you know ... I've always wanted to try a cream cheese-bacon mix ...

Maybe with some horseradish in there, too?

You can just give him a big smile, and tell him sweetly, "Oh you don't have to go to any trouble about the yard. I love gardening and would be happy to do all that."

Heh...I can *try* that.

It's interesting communicating with the guy. He's nice and all...but it's interesting.

I'm wondering if the tires will even really work for taters now. I think the reason they're supposed to work really well is because black tires hold in heat so well. White ones, on the other hand...

Mr. Guido will call it "Lizabeth's Cucumber Sandwich" because of the horseradish ...

Or, how about wasabi?

I have a great recipe for a Japanese cucumber salad; 3 cukes, cut in half lengthwise, remove seeds, then cut crosswise into thin slices. Mix together 1/3 cup white rice vinegar, 4 tsp. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, and a little chopped fresh ginger. Pour over the cucumber slices and marinade for at least 2 hours. You can substitute white vinegar for the rice vinegar, but you might want to dilute it with a little water.

When I can get good tomatoes, I'll cube one up in the salad; vey tasty.

There was a tea room in Tallahassee that made a delicious shrimp salad. One of their secrets was that they grated cucumber into it in almost the same quantity as the shrimp. It increased the bulk of the salad, but didn't take away from the taste of the shrimp. I would imagine you could do the same using fresh crab.

Mmmm.

I have had them on the sandwiches too...but I've never had them cooked. I have heard of a cucumber soup, but even it is chilled, I believe!

Yuck...every southern bone in body is recoiling at the thought of a fried cuke!

HEB is a great place to shop...I missed HEB when we moved to OK. I don't know if they have them anywhere in OK, but they don't around here.
