The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I was thinking more along the lines of severed heads on pikes along the driveway.

Something along these lines, perhaps?

That's good.

The smoking pile of carcasses would be a nice touch, too.

:-)

Good morning! What an image to see first thing :)

(whurzmacoffee)

An unexpected day off! The plan is:

--run a few necessary errands today instead of Saturday
--"babysit" my niece/nephew* for a couple of hours so their mom can get some work done
--make an unscheduled visit to my dentist (I think there's a filling gone)

After that, whatever.

*Technically, they're step-first cousins once removed. But their step-dad, my cousin, is the closest to a brother I have, and they've been calling me "uncle" since he and their mother were dating, so we keep it simple :)

I thought the Coreopsis was a little taller. I guess not. But you could plant some low flowering plants in front of the celosia, as well. I have some low growing creeper plants that spill down over the rock wall in front of our house that are beautiful in the late summer. One batch has tiny purple flowers, the others are white. Can't think of their name right now, though.

I think we had some of those purple and white flowers, but I don't remember their name, either! They spread nicely - Mom got them for the rock garden in front. I'd know 'em if I saw 'em...I'm sure there must be some in the catalog.

Re# 3848

Sounds like periwinkles to me

I don't know if I spelled the name of the plant right butn it sounds like that might be it.

They weren't periwinkles. I'm looking through the catalog, and I think the ones *we* had, anyway, were alyssum.

I want...

I really need to start making a list. I can't have *every* flower in the catalog, after all!

Heh...surely Burpee would give me a discount if I bought one of each? ;-)

I just need to start on my list. I want marigolds, for sure, and quite possibly alyssum, and a celosia variant, and climbing plants if I have a fence, and some zinnias - those would work well in planters, I think.

I remember now! It's Phlox! Periwinkle (vinca) is more of a ground cover with lovely glossy green leaves. I planted about 100 little vinca plants in the front foundation bed of our house in NJ! They sure spread fast though, and I got a good deal on the little small plants from Musser Forests. It's a great place to get plants if you don't mind starting small and waiting for them to grow and fill out, instead of getting huge landscape plants.

Rosio told me it was Alyssum.

Good morning Hobbit Hole!

Sheesh. I'll be at the office until 10pm with all of the work I have sitting here already, and it just keeps coming.

Make it stop!

Yes, it does.

Of course, I can think of something else that would have a nice "ring" to it.

You need a little Gandalf the Grey action figure to put in your "IN" box when it's full enough.
