The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

~yawn~

I'm back in Miami safe and sound.

WA HHs: Thank you so very much for having me over this weekend. I had a terrific time! :-D

I'm glad I got some relaxation in since I've come home to Alyson's continuing pink eye problem and Becky may possibly have a broken pinky from getting it slammed in a door at my sister's yesterday. ~sigh~

Back to reality. :-/

Hair - I'll be sending up some more Pilon soon. *grin*

Now, I'm gonna grab a shower and get ready to go into the office in a bit.

I've got that little notification thing on 'cause I really do need to get some work done. It's a beautiful day outside and I'm resisting the temptation to go work in the yard. But I gots stuff to do here.

Trying to decide if I want to mindlessly surf or put in a DVD.

Don't tell g'nad, but I had on "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood" yesterday before the game. Not 'cause I wanted to see it, but 'cause a friends wife is in it.

I never saw her. But at least I can tell 'em I've watched it.

Here's a wind storm puzzler...

The tree fell from the right-hand side of the road... Here's my questions....

How did it get hung up on the lower line (which is cable) and not on the upper lines (which are power and telephone)

Why didn't whoever cut it off the road cut it again on the other side of the cable to get it off the cable?

Don't know about why it didn't get the other lines...height of the tree...force of the fall...dunno.

It could be that the highway folk just cleared the road and are leaving the rest to the cable people. That's not uncommon.

After Isabel, folks did enough to clear the roadways. Utilities were working for weeks and months to restore lines.

The tree that's down was at least as tall as the ones still standing...

The only thing I wonder is if the power company had already fixed the power lines but the cable people hadn't been there yet... but then I thought... the power company certainly would have cut the tree off the cable, just so the poles aren't holding all that weight... wouldn't they?

SirKit just pointed out that it's snowing here! I hadn't even noticed. My computer is in the den, and is next to a sliding door that used to go out to the deck before we took the deck off. But I have a heavy light blocking liner under the curtain, so I can't see outside from where I am. We're getting big old fat flakes!

They've got satellite?

I just got a strange picture. We had that snow shower a little while ago, then the sun came out and started melting the snow. In the areas that were shaded, the snow hadn't melted yet, and one of those places was behind the branches of the tree in the front yard. The snow is actually in the pattern of the shadow of the branches! I'll download the picture from my camera later and post it. I wasn't able to take a picture from high up, but I think you can still see ithe design from where it was taken.
