Has anyone seen this new series staring Jennifer Love Hewett, it's called "Ghost Whisperer"
It's really good, it's about this woman who can see and speak to ghosts and help them to finish thier unfinished business before going into the light.
One episode made me cry, it was about a little boy who died in a car/train wreck but had no idea he was dead. He thought his mommy and daddy were angry with him for not coming home.
Melinda, the GW, had to gently explain all this to him and to get his parents to assure him they were not angry and they let him cross on over.
I am the Great Cornholio!
We pretty much walked all that's right there, but there is a lower park below the falls where there's more.
You'll be here for the potential spring floods when the snow melts. The falls get loud and fast then, and it's cool to be there when the salmon are runnin'... you'll get to see that. :~D

Ooh, yeah, I'd love to see that!
Heh...sorry I kinda talked your ear off about it when we went there. I just find it all fascinating!
Coupla travel questions I'm wrestling with - anyone have any input?
1. I'm hoping to bring my bike with me. Not that it's anything fancy...but it works! We were thinking there's gotta be a way to lash it to the roof-rack, and I'm assuming if I put a tarp over it, it'll keep out grit and hopefully help with wind resistance. Any tips on doing this? And is it likely to hurt my milage so much it isn't worth it?
2. It's likely I'll be doing this trip alone. Hence, I'm worried about dealing with the cats. I can't really leave 'em cooped up nine hours a day without disastrous consequences. Now, on the way out here, they tried getting in the front once or twice and then settled down, but I worry that if I'm alone, they may try harder. Any ideas for really, reallly cheap barriers? Or should I assume they'll likely calm down pretty quickly, since they were good on the way out here?
Discuss.
Did you read 2741?
What?
*laughing*
Yeah...we don't get any channels, so I haven't seen it. Sounds like it could be an interesting premise.
I don't remember you talkin' too much :~D
I think there's a small spring run into the Deschutes, but the major salmon run is in the fall.
#2: The cats should be fine and prolly will settle down as you get on the way, but ask a veternarian.
I would think the tarp would create more wind resistance than just leaving the bike lashed to the roof. :-/
As far as the cats go, I'd worry about them getting under the pedals or having a freak-out in the vehicle.
I'd keep them caged and when you park to eat and such, let them out then. So long as the doors of the van are closed when you release them, there shouldn't be any trouble.
But I'll defer to the wisdom of those who have travelled more often...especially with critters. ;-D
Maybe when you get to your new place you can see it.
Far Eastern or Near Eastern?
I think you could strap the bike to the roof without a lot of trouble (use enough ties) but getting a tarp ot stay put might be harder...
If you bought a large tarp and actually wrapped the bike in it before you put it on the roof, the tarp might stay put better... or you could skip the tarp... it'll all clean up.
I wish we could let you have ecurbh's cartop carrier, it holds a lot, but it's here and you're there.
Can't really say about the cats... except that if you really want to let them loose and are afraid they'll interfere with driving, carry a spray bottle with water in it, to spray them if they get underfoot.
I just worry because a) the carrier is *just* big enough for both of 'em to lay down - no bigger, and b) they can't use the cat box whenever they want. And there's no guarantee they'd use it when I stopped, so...well, I worry. I can deal with cleaning up messes, but I don't want them miserable. On the drive out, we let them out after we got well underway each day. Probably against the rules, but it worked.
On the way out here, they slept most of the way. And probably I'm worrying needlessly about their comfort. After all, they spend most of their time when I'm not home curled up in a little ball together on the bed...don't use much more space there than they would in the carrier.
I was thinking you could get a big net bag, suspend it from the ceiling, and put the cats in that. They'd be unable to move, would look hilarious, and Tam would make interesting noises.
We can do test drive stuff this week if you want - see how eager they are to get out and up front.
Miss Kitty doesn't like car travel so I don't take her on long car trips but.....
The one time I let her roam the car, I had to fend her out of the pedal area. I won't do that again. :)
She does a lot better when I orient the cage so she can see me all the time.
