The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That was just the original one, I've seen most of the updated/knockoff versions. It's a good starting place anyway.

I need to dig up a copy of my 'rules to live by' and update it... might have one at home some place. I have a hard copy here at work.
1322- Anything worth doing is worth doing half assed

3813- Never leave weapons lying around.
3814- Pick them up; you never know when you will need to hurt someone.

How about "always smile and be polite when you stab someone. It tends to confuse the survivors" - is that on your list?

No but 1215 is vaguly similar. "Try to make people think you are stupid; that way they will be suprised when you suddenly kill them."

300 also slighlty applies: "Avoid kicking the ass of people that like you. That might make them not like you."

My great grandfather played for them but I don't think he ever said that.

Oh Garsh. Now you've gone and done it. He's going to want your autograph now or maybe try to adopt you or something. I can't decide if Red Sox Nation is a cult or an illness or something in between. *sigh*

What do you think about Theo Epstein coming back? I heard about it on the radio, and our local hosts were having a good time at his expense this morning.

Ungh...I really don't want leftovers and I don't wanna cook.

Doesn't leave many choices. If any.

I'm having a sliced turkey TV dinner and a glass of cholesterol medicine.

Heh...I kinda got burned out on TV dinners in the military. We didn't have a chow hall on base and the only cooking thingies we were allowed to have in our rooms were microwaves. I've eaten enough TV dinners and hot pockets to last me a life time!

Even had a turkey TV dinner for Thanksgiving one year...I was alone that year. I felt thoroughly pathetic. ;-)

I do get a hankering for 'em once in a great while, though, I admit.

I went out to eat by myself one Thanksgiving to a Luby's . Then I saw this elderly lady eating by herself and I asked if I could sit with her! It ended up being one of the nicest dinners! Heh!

I figure it's sports-related, so it's not surprise I'm lost. *grin*

...I embrace my inner-fool. ;-D
