The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I just gave my "Gettin' a cold coconut cocoa" recipe to my brother. It is a super dose of lauric acid which boosts the immune system:

Fill a coffee mug 1/3 - 1/2 full of coconut milk, stir in a TBS of cocoa powder, a TBS of honey (or more to suit), and then fill the rest of the mug with hot water. Vey yummy.

I usually add a tsp or two extra of coconut oil because it's the only way I can choke it (the oil, not the cocoa) down. It's a texture thing for me. I can't stand to take the oil straight. blech.

Sounds good!

Do you have to buy a coconut to get the milk? Is there another way?

Could I add rum? LOL Just kidding.

It comes canned - usually in the Asian section at the grocery, with Thai foods.

Ahh...

I was thinkin' a coconut would be mighty hard to squeeze.

;-)

I know a lot of those folks can be dismissed. The posts that really get to me are the happily married folks that say things like "I got married at 21, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Anyone who waits is obviously not right in the head." Worded diffferently, of course.

In my case, it ain't a matter of "waiting". And not everyone follows - or should follow - the exact same path.

Admittedly, if I could truly stop comparing my path to that of others (like my parents, for example), I wouldn't be so worried that things haven't gone the same way for me. So I'm guilty of the same thing.

Coconut milk is good. It's very useful in curry.

Hmmm... I haven't made any curry in a long, long time...

While your at it don't forget to remind them that their attitudes toward western women would do Osama Bin Lauden proud.

There is definitely a double-standard, but those attitudes are going the way of the dinosaurs.

A woman who won't get married just for the sake of getting married is to be admired. And the guy that ~does~ win her affections has reason to be proud. He wasn't the one she "settled for" - he was the one she was waiting for.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it is far better to be alone than to be with the wrong person.

Life seriously sucks worse when you're with someone who thinks they're doing ~you~ a favor by being with you.

Curry can be spicy, or mild, depending on the curry paste you use and whether you add extra spices. There are lots of different recipes. I usually make a Thai-style curry.

You need coconut milk and a jar of curry paste - I can't remember the particular type of curry paste. I can look it up for you when I get home if you like. You put the coconut milk and a couple tablespoons of curry paste in a wok or big skillet and stir until it's starting to bubble, and then add the meat (chicken, pork, even beef cubes). When the meat is mostly cooked you add vegetables - I usually use peppers and onions. Then I put it on rice. Mmm!

I use a milder curry paste and add a couple teaspoons of sriachi sauce, another Thai thing. It adds spice. I use sriachi in my taco meat, too, and sometimes in stir fry.

Exactly.

I'd like an Osama pic with "You make me proud, infidel!" on it.

It comes in cans. I get mine from the 'ethnic' section of the grocery store.

You tell 'em, Ruthy! Those people... I just feel sorry for them, honestly. None of them seem to consider what happens when a woman doesn't find the right guy at age 17 - a lot of them seem to be angry that women have jobs and aren't just sitting at home waiting for them to finish sowing wild oats and come calling.

Those threads used to make me angry. Now they just make me sad that there are such stupid people out there.
