This is going to be less than pretty, but someone had to do it.
Yesterday's Steeler/Indy game was .............. well, you fill that in.
I'm a Steeler fan of 55 years or so, and the game yesterday was, to say the least, quite bizarre --- as the concept of "a football move" brought back visions of Elroy 'Crazy Legs' Hirsh. The LIVE THREAD yesterday including this incredible game was as lively as the game itself. This morning I gathered some of your comments on the Troy Polamalu interception.
Let's be honest............. he caught the damn ball and the refs blew the call. But FReepers' humor and insights were pretty darn funny as all this was happening. I'm a crappy typist, so this may be a quite ugly presentation. I am just going to present some of the posts from all of you who were transfixed by yesterday's game and the bizarre officiating. It all was unreal, and your comments were fabulous.
Yoi!

I'm glad its not my team, I would have a heart attack!

After further review, and a review of security provisions, we reverse the call.

CBS considers the money slipped to the refs to make that reversal the best investment it could make. 715 posted on 01/15/2006 3:56:15 PM EST by steveegg

I'm a Colts fan, and that INT call was horrible. Seemed like TV wanted an interesting finish.

You're right. Buffalo must breed good thinking.
;-)
If he's talking about "no shows", there have been plenty of times when thousands of people have failed to show up or did not give their tickets to others to use. But of course, all the tickets are always sold in advance ............. and as Petronski said, sold and desired for years in advance.
The waiting list for season tickets is longer than Hillary's lying nose.
Maineman, you have as much credibility on the Steelers as Al Gore has on wiretapping.
And I'll be in one of them.
;-)
The scraggly guy "sitting" beside us in those cramped seats way up behind the Pirate dugout was so drunk, my older brother periodically grabbed his pint bottle (paper bag and all) from his jacket and took a couple of swigs.
A great day at Old Forbes.
I'm not really knocking Vanderjagt. Kicker may be the physically easiest job on a football team, but it is the ultimate 'what have you done for me lately' job. You can make four FGs in a game, but miss the fifth to tie it or win it, and you are the goat.
Sad but true. Bill Buckner had to move out of Massachusetts, it got so bad.
I was just watching the news today where the NFL made a determination that the call was wrong, and could very well have been a game changer. I.E. they would have possibly replayed the game!!!
Maybe our pal from the northeast coast is still harboring nightmares of Jack Lambert (sans teeth)...that could explain his crankiness.
Yoi and double yoi!!!
Numbers don't lie. So you my little friend are WRONG
What numbers? The ones he made up? LOL
Offering no citation, positing unsubstantiated numbers, he claims "numbers don't lie." Truly a "WTF" moment.
IMO, TP intercepted the ball. Having said that, the only ones Indy has to blame is Indy itself. They should have done those things neccessary to avoid getting into a catch-up game. They sleepwalked for two and a half quarters. By then, it was almost too late. Manning was rattled early. He had happy feet and when that happens, he loses. It shouldn't have come down to a blown call and game saving tackle by Big Ben. I'm no fan of either of those teams. Indy didn't take care of business early and Pittsburgh just wanted it more and played like it. Pittsburgh/Denver should be fun. Just hope the zebras are better than those at Indy.
He wasn't.
And how many of their road games didn't sell out, even to places that often don't sell out like SD? And how big was the Burgh cheering section in those road games. The Steelers have a serious national fan base, go anywhere here in Tucson and you're like to find Steeler bumper stickers, and I've seen Steeler memorabelia in use on recent trips to Seattle, Portland and the Bay.
Some people just have issues I guess.
They wouldn't have replayed the game, they didn't replay the Giants Niners game after admitting they blew the call late. The NFL stance is that once the game is over the game is over and if a ref blew a call that changed the outcome of the game well that's sad but we must move on.
A national following comes from a lot of things. Most the Steelers fans I know have never even been to PA much less the Burgh itself. We like the Steelers because the Steelers have consistently played run first old fashioned smash moouth football for pretty much the entire existence of the franchise (with a few exception years like the Maddox/ Mularky season). Also with the lack of turnover in the coaching spot (2 guys for the last 30 plus years in the top spot) you develop more of a feel for the team as a whole, also the Rooney family has a long history of being all around good guys that care about their player and the game. Honestly your wild accusations are the first time since I became a Steeler fan in the late 70s I've heard anyone accuse the Steelers of playing dirty, and I doubt you'll ever be able to back it up with facts.
That would never hapen.
"happen"
I didn't think so.................. he's just a pissed off oddball.
Hey, just repeating what I heard. I agree it probably wouldn't happen, but it is a possiblility from what the NFL was discussing. I think they need to focus on the terrible officiating and not how to rectify the outcomes of said officiating.
Perhaps some slight changes before the kickoff.
Denver's QB most likely will not play a game like this past one against the Pats twice in a row (here's hoping). He'll be running for his life this next Sunday. Dick LeBeau will have him wishing he was up in the Idaho woods smoking a doobie by halftime.

But to be fair ............. for some love for 'Jake the Snake' :

I was gonna buy a #43 teeshirt in honor of my hero, Troy Polamalu, but yesterday the store had sold out all the adult sizes!!! Waahhh!!!
Lets not compare anything that happened this weekend to the "tuck rule".
The tuck rule is exactly that...a rule. The NFL admitted that they made mistakes this weekend with interpreting the rules.. The tuck rule was no mistake. On the contrary, they enforced the rule regarding that play.
If you don't like the rule...change it.
