This is going to be less than pretty, but someone had to do it.
Yesterday's Steeler/Indy game was .............. well, you fill that in.
I'm a Steeler fan of 55 years or so, and the game yesterday was, to say the least, quite bizarre --- as the concept of "a football move" brought back visions of Elroy 'Crazy Legs' Hirsh. The LIVE THREAD yesterday including this incredible game was as lively as the game itself. This morning I gathered some of your comments on the Troy Polamalu interception.
Let's be honest............. he caught the damn ball and the refs blew the call. But FReepers' humor and insights were pretty darn funny as all this was happening. I'm a crappy typist, so this may be a quite ugly presentation. I am just going to present some of the posts from all of you who were transfixed by yesterday's game and the bizarre officiating. It all was unreal, and your comments were fabulous.
Yoi!

What the HELL is a "Football Move" all of a sudden??

After further review, and a review of security provisions, we reverse the call.

CBS considers the money slipped to the refs to make that reversal the best investment it could make. 715 posted on 01/15/2006 3:56:15 PM EST by steveegg

I'm a Colts fan, and that INT call was horrible. Seemed like TV wanted an interesting finish.

Ok Cowher, this time can you just take a knee?

Fake kneel isn't illegal in the NFL, the problem with the play comes in when the ref thinks the kneel was completed and it wasn't. That's why a smart fake kneel call stops the fakery at the snap, don't start to kneel just let the formation and pre-lineup jesturing do the faking.
I really didn't hear the explanation well at the time.......... my head was exploding.

LOL!
Offensive line has to be smart and remember the final gun hasn't sounded. One of the advantages of faking a knee is it'll help keep your line in the game, since it is the playoffs and you know the losing team isn't going to give up the winning team might as well play to 0:00 too.
Time for the drop kick .....
;-)
You're right, but you can add the convoluted wording of some of the "official" rules as a reason too, imo.
A heck of a bowler too.
My bad, I was thinking of Lofa Tatupu of the Seahawks. Another great one.
A few of us are about 10 years older since Sunday morning.
Laces Down would be tough.
;-)
Yep. Bummer for me and MOST of the NFL fans. I wonder if a team wins the SB and no one watches...does it count?
Iron City
I DO like that beer.
Well most SBs are a bummer for most fans since only 1/16 of the teams make it. And yet somehow the ratings are fine and the ads sell for enough to payoff the national debt. And really both the AFC teams with a shot right now have a solid cross country fan base (as shown by their ability to always have lots of their fans in attendance on road games), so the AFC will definitely be doing its part to pump the ratings.
Your inane posts are beginning to make me dislike the Patriots. That's pretty tough, since I respect them so much.
;-)
Delusional?
According to the rules as read, apparently this would be an incomplete pass.
Which is totally ridiculous.
If the "football move" language was put in place in order to disambiguize a situation where a receiver falls and the ball pops out, it should not have any bearing on a play where the receiver catches, and then gets up with the ball, and then knocks it out himself.
Has anyone seen if this talk of having both knees off the ground is actually in the rule book or is it something the refs made up on the spot?
SD
LOL ....... who was the player in the playoffs who got down on the ground and made snow angels in the end zone as a TD celebration? Is that a "football move"?
I have to second that, if someone hasn't already. Growing up in Texas, the Steelers broke my young heart on many many occasions- vs. Dallas and Houston. Although I am a Miami Dolphin fan now, I still hate the Steelers. That said, I found myself actually rooting for them to win (yesterday only) because I find Peyton Manning smug and arrogant. I've never cared for the Colts anyway.
Go Denver. Go Seattle! Seahawks all the way!!!!!
They should make the tuck rule for the receivers and DBs and the football move for the QBs.
Some of the best Super Bowl parties I ever attended where in the 70's at the Holiday In in Little Washington. They would rent the largest tv at the time and and put it in the ballroom. I used to bring up our bands sound system from the lounge(we were playing there) and mike it. It was loud and beautiful.
After drinking that swill/liquid exlax, I'm surprised you didn't fall asleep on the john.
