Wyatt is right... Idol is not about someone that can sing 100 differents songs like each of the original 100 singers who sang them originally.
Idol is about the new singer bringing his or her own style to idol while singing other people's songs. Chris has adjusted well and has pulled it off so far no matter what they have put in front of him and he has done it using his alt/hard rock style.
The only difference is that Chris does it better... ;)
The show is a talent show for singing. Chris isnt a cabaret singer, rapper or soul artist. He is a alt-rock singer. Why you expect to jam a round peg into a square hole is beyond me.

I heard that thumping noise. Thought she was just rubbing it between her legs for luck! ;)
I think Idol is about singing a song well rather you "make it your own" or imitate, AND presenting it well. Either way, as long as it's a crowd pleaser. IMO, Turning every song into alt/hardrock is not pleasing. That song wasn't meant for that. I think IF they can, sure make the song your own, but keep the song in the style it was meant to be. I think these contestants need to be able to sing different styles. THEN when they become big stars, they can focus on one style.

Reba Mcintyre has that lisp thing going on, too. Hasn't hurt her career.
Yeah, when it reaches the level where everyone has talent and originality.
I've been thinking about the comments on this thread all day. What we're dealing with is an art here; that would be the ability to intrepret and present music. Art by its very nature is controversial, and not equally appealing to all of us who experience it.
This is a good thing, to not try to be acceptable for everyone's tastes.
Rumors are flying about one of the judges getting the axe. Don't know if it is true....but I think we can all guess whom that would be if that rumor were true.
Who would be an acceptable replacement for Paula? I have one suggestion, but I'm going to wait to see what you all think.
so which one was her boy toy this year?
I saw a poll, and I think it was on the AI site, asking if Paula should be replaced by Whitney Houston????Yuk.

As for Chris, I just didn't the way he did that song last night. Struck me as 'dark, eery'. Maybe I'm just too used to the way Cash sang it. I grew up in a household where a lot of types of music was played. Benny Goodman, Boots Randolph, Buddy Rich, Dorsey, Miller, Gershwin, Belafonte etc and of course pop and country. About the only styles I don't care for are rap, opera and jazz. Even opera I suppose I could tolerate, since I liked the contestant that sang opera. I reall wanted to see her perform more but she was eliminated early.
After AI last night, I surfed channels a bit and saw Nashville Star was on. I never watched it before and didn't catch much of it but I think I know why Hickler is on AI. She wouldn't have made it into Nashville Star. Just the brief clips I saw, showed that clearly.
She isn't that good. Wonder why Simon hasn't told her that she is like the drunken girlfriend that sings at weddings and flirts with all the guys? Or did he?

They would have to redefine ins then. Last year Bo and Constantine had ins. I would think that if she were in violation they would have disqualified her by now.
LOL!
So replace one has-been woosey drug addict with another? Great idea!
I think his push for Pickler really diminishes Simon's credibility. (...and the whole show, for that matter. If it looks fixed to us, why watch?) It's obvious she is not the most talented person there.
As long as we are getting after some of these women, I have a question. Am I the only one that thought Fantasia dressed sleezy? I mean, they would show clips of her at church singing, and she spoke about church a lot, yet she just seemed to dress so sleezy all the time, half falling out of her clothes. Just wondering if anyone else thought that?
