Luckily, for Taylor this performance probably won't hurt him. He already has a lot of fans. I couldn't believe the rousing applause again tonight. People love him.

Also, the failed career of Ruben Stoddard because of his weight has to worry Producers. But you're right about the weight AND looks thing now. I contend that if Aretha Franklin hit the scene today, she'd have a hard time of it. And that's just sad.

I'm convinced that if Mandisa weighted around 120 pounds she would far and away be the leader of this competition.

I think Mandisa's weight might be working in her favor. If she weighed 120, she would just be another cookie-cutter Idol hopeful. But with her size (and sparkling personality) she's endearing herself to a lot of voters.

If she did win, she could surely make a better career for herself than that tub of goo Ruben Studdard.

Maybe he doesn't want to be too tied to a stereotype, but look at Chris. He knows where he strengths are and he is staying with it. Barry was right on about Taylor having a nice whiskey tenor and he needs to USE it!! The song tonight was not at all challenging of his talent.

ok, rant over. :) By the way TAR just isn't happening for me this year. I'm sorry I'm not being supportive.

I'm shocked no one did 'Rock Around the Clock' by Bill Haley and the Comets. I'm listening to it as I type this. It's the first true rock anthem and is still a joy to listen to. Maybe AI doesn't have the rights to use the song. But rock and roll was born in the 50's, and you'd think the teen and 20-something contestants would love to do some classic rock.

Well you have to admit with Clay there was nowhere to go but up. :) Clay had a nice face at least to work with, Kevin needs to mature a little before they can really work with him.

MSNBC is insanely jealous of Idol's ratings.

I think Taylor is very attractive too. Nice smile. The gray hair is sexy.

I just wonder who's "fringe" he's peaking under.LOL! My suspicion is anyone he can latch onto who looks like she might make some serious money.

You're so right. It's like he's trying to play against type, so to speak. But even the Rolling Stones and U2 have to trot out the crowd pleasers. What happens when really popular older bands try and play their new material at a concert? Everyone goes to the bathroom.

Yes, it really is sad.

Not to mention that her "full figure" gives her extra "pipes" to belt out the tunes.

You don't see too many skinny opera singers.

Mandisa raised the bar so far tonight that no one else could climb over it. If she "closed" the show instead of opened it, they would have brought the house down.

Here's my opinion on tonight's show--FWIW.

Bottom three will be Covais, Bucky, and Elliott.

Bucky will be going home.

The girls were all fantastic tonight. Who did 50's the best? Katharine, Lisa, and Paris.

Taylor was way off tonight. Obviously he cannot sing and dance at the same time. He was all out of breath for the singing. He needs to get himself to the health club.

Mandisa was pretty good, but she's no Dinah Washington.
Katharine was fabulous as far as the vocals, but I still have two words of fashion advice for her: Foundation Garments!

Chris was the most original...and he'd better walk the line, or that Big Mama of his will knock his block off!

Ace was sickeningly sweet, and so was Covais. I felt like I needed a dose of insulin after their performances.

There is something to what you say, but nevertheless this is a society that is very harsh toward truly obese people. Except for her weight, Mandisa has everything. Looks, personality and talent. I wish her all the best no matter what happens on AI.

You would think so, but nooooooo.

Like I said a few posts ago, they need to bring out the crowd pleasers. They all want to do these slow songs that show off their range, but no one except Chris, Mandisa, and Taylor are really playing to the crowd, if you know what I mean.

Two better words would be "wardrobe malfunction.":)

Thanks for your take on the show tonight, Palladin. I'm in the Pacific time zone, so am just getting ready to go offline to watch the show. I enjoy watching it while keeping everyone's opinions on this thread in mind as to how they performed.

I don't think guest starring in a UPN show makes you a professional anything.

BWAHAHAAHAA!
