Crowe tunes up for Tamworth
Herald Sun ^ | 11 January 2006 | Erin McWhirter

RUSSELL Crowe will dust off his cowboy boots and take to the stage at the 34th Country Music Awards in Tamworth later this month.

Alongside Australian music stars Paul Kelly, John Williamson and Troy Cassar-Daley, Crowe will present a main gong at country music's night of nights.

The Academy Award winning actor and musician will take a break from touring with his band to present the award and entertain the crowd with a song from his new album My Hand, My Heart.

Crowe has asked country singer and Golden Guitar nominee Felicity Urquhart to join him on stage to sing backing vocals with his band, The Ordinary Fear of God.

"I'm rapt," 28-year-old Urquhart said when she heard the news.

Urquhart is no stranger to playing with Crowe, having jammed with him at his property and performed at one of his Christmas parties.

"He's a top fella," she said.

"I'm not sure who will get a bigger kick out of it, the audience or me."

One-time Australian Idol contestant Shannon Noll will take time out from rehearsals for his Shine tour to also present an award.

Iconic musician Smoky Dawson and previous award winner Melinda Schneider will also present.

Meanwhile, the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) has just finalised a deal with the Southern Cross Ten Television Network and its affiliates to broadcast the awards for the next three years.

While the 34th CMAA Country Music Awards are being held on Saturday 28 January, the broadcast on the Southern Cross Ten signal will be on Saturday February 4.

Kudos to Russell! Love his band's new name, TOFOG -- nobody needs to change their tatoo!

Aussie Dasher, Did you put me on the Russell Crowe ping list...or is this the Aussie ping list?

I admit to buying one of Russell Crowe's music DVD's, and I also have a TOFOG T-shirt that says "Get Back Thirty Odd Foot" with the name (at that time) of his band, Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts. The shirt was purchased at his big concert in Texas a few years back, by a Russell fan I know who has traveled to various cities to attend his concerts.

I didn't know there was a Aussie ping list, and I'd be bloody staggered if Rusty's got one!

Yeah right. But Australian Country has a parallel history pretty much as far back as American Country.

Waltzing Matilda (1895) has a claim to be proto-Country. (Could even make a case for The Wild Colonial Boy (before 1880)

You will never know the 10th circle of hell until you have that song sung by the other wonders from Downunder "The Wiggles" burned into your head. Don't even get me started on the Wiggles. I have a 16 month old son, and I already HATE the Wiggles LOL...
