Congrats to all new members who joined this week!

I don't even know what this is about.

I like the Team Ronald Reagan; it fits the conservative angle, it also speaks a bit towards what we're donating computing power to do, and I like folding one for the Gipper.

Vast Right Wing Conspiracy just seems to be a liberal tweak, along with the liberal crybaby logo. It seems to me to be the difference between a positive image and a negative image. I'd rather stay on the positive, especially for a hopefully worthy cause.

"Oops, forgot to update my signature :) "

It might be wise to leave JimRob alone and just sort this out amongst ourselves.

Continued prodding has potential negative consequences on all of us - not just an individual.

Ronald Reagan seemed obvious to me because (a) just about every conservative here likes Ronald Reagan and (b) he ultimately succumbed to one of the diseases targeted by this work.

Fold one for the Gipper!

Using distributed computing to divide massively complex mathematical problems over hundreds of thousands of CPUs. They're researching protein folding, with implications for Alzheimers and many other disease.

"Ronald Reagan seemed obvious to me"

His estates attorneys (or Nancy) may have an issue with his name being used without permission whether for a noble cause or not.

Any attorneys out there?

Without a profit, and as a tribute to the man, I doubt there would be a problem. Seriously doubt it.

Agreed. However, since I missed all the "action" last night, just wanted to point out that painting Stanford as a liberal entity may be a slap in the face for the Hoover Institute folks.

Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, the Stanford University-based Hoover Institution is one of the country's oldest research institutes. With eight fellows on the Bush administration's Defense Policy Board, as well as several current and former associates like Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice serving in the country's highest policy-making posts, it's massive ignorance to call Stanford (including Hoover) a liberal institution.

I don't know myself. And I really like ...

Fold one for the Gipper!

Says it all.

Is there a way for the Notre Dame fight song to play on the team page? :)

He is a public figure; I seriously doubt that a positive thing would be any less protected as a form of speech than the wacko leftie sites that mock Reagan's contributions. If you were talking about something like the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Official Folding team or something of the like, I bet there would be an issue to be explored, but otherwise, no.

Stanford is an overwhelmingly and exceedingly liberal institution. The Hoover think tank is a notable exception.
