~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Poetry Thread XXIV~
January 2, 2006 | bentfeather/Poets of the Lair

Posted on 01/02/2006 7:52:08 AM PST by Soaring Feather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Yes, that was sorta a backdoor peek at the workings in the dusty recesses in this noggin of mine.
Er.. ignore the mutant chinchillas running in the giant wheel, they're part of the generator system.
/ just kidding.

Okers.

The Battle of the Sentient Jello

The opponents squared off eyeing eyes and not I, I see
The Jello thing versus myself, you see.
And on the plate the antagonist roamed.
Twisting, thrashing, squirming.
Deftly avoiding my deadly spoon.
Sliding, slimy, gooey, doomed.
Suddenly my fist with forks festooned,
the Jello thing, its guts harpooned
Was beaten before the horrified crowd.
So badly even the chefs were wowed.

But it is I whose guts were cowed.
The Jello thing, in victory, proud.

(Oh by the way, a poem about the Dragonfly will get you in good with the lady who runs this place, so long as its a poem about how grand they are and not about swatting one!) ;^)

Oh boy, I heard that! LOL

Thank You for your service.

May our Father keep you safe.

Thank you for your warm sentiments!

Although it seems like yesterday, I left the Navy in 1989. It was a good training ground for an undisciplined little cuss as myself. While I didn't exactly enjoy most of my time in, I am proud and grateful to have done it.

The strange irony is how the Navy experience effected my "poetic process." Before going into the Navy, it was easy to write creatively. (Maybe, because I was reading more creatively.) Then the Navy life was too hectic, busy, and "macho" to spend being creative. Now, 16 years later, the creative juices seem to be trying to bubble up again. The odd thing is that the ideas, that come to the surface, were born in the struggles endured in the Navy.

Thank you for providing a safe outlet for creativity.

Good morning to you!

We support our fabulous military, we don't care when you served. My uncle served in the Navy in WWII. Many of my family members served.

Ah, the creative juices are moving, good! What did you think about the suggestions?? Will they be helpful to you??

WayzataJohnn is another Navy Vet so you two have lots in common.

It's my pleasure and love to hold a place for poets. Thank You.

Thank you for your advise. I like both structure adjustments.

I know my abstract wording needs poetic help!

I vaguely remember that there were some rythmic rules or guidelines? What was that based on? I know that there are many different syles, but I am just looking for something that might fit with my abstract ramblings. 8^)

Well, WayzataJohnn offered to email you some structure.I am a rebel and use Free Verse. I don't like rules!!LOL

Free Verse just came to me in 1980. That's when I started to write after raising my family of four daughters.

I would not be to concerned about rules, they inhibit a body IMHO.

A poem does not have to rhyme. Many people believe this.

Thank you. Yes, if you wanted to FReepmail me with structure ideas, that would be great!

As far as dragonflies go...who wouldn't love such a beautiful creation! (followed by sounds of kissing up) Now if your talking about mosquitoes....there's a creature I wouldn't mind seeing elliminated.

A poem does not have to rhyme.

Yeah, I'm not that much into ryhming. Call me a scrooge, but I think my distaste for rap "music" has something to do with it. On the other hand, I love reading childrens stories or poems like "The Night Before Christmas" to the kids.

There is a place for it, but for my disjointed thought processes, it would come out fake...to me.

As far as rules go...I'll probably just thrash 'em to stir everyone up!! ;^)

Nah, I just want some guidelines so I can get the thoughts to flow better.
