ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Joey Harrington is getting at least one more chance with the Detroit Lions.
He will start at quarterback over Jeff Garcia this week against the New Orleans Saints, interim coach Dick Jauron said Wednesday.
"We are just trying to see if we can jump start and get a win somehow," Jauron said.

Here's one for the NFL pinglist....
Bobby would be so hung-over after ONE game with this bunch he'd be ruined forever. Even a tough Texan can only take so much.
Pinging some of the Lions usual suspects....
Millen can't pick talent. He has business being a G.M. If he has a SHRED of decency, he will resign the minute the season ends.
The WRs are spoiled, rich brats who have NO work ethic.
The O-line is just not good.
Mariucci is a class guy; however, he was too laid back with this team. Didn't push hard enough on his young, lazy players.
The owner just doens't know football, which is why he hired Millen.
If they do hire someone who knows football and can turn this franchise around, it'll be pure luck.
I'm not sure it would be pure luck.
There's some talent on this team - but for one reason or another, they can't get it together.
The right coach could make it work. But he'd have to do some serious ego-cracking with a few players.
I knew Jeff Garcia would be replaced as soon as he defended his former coach, Steve Mariucci. The Detroit Lions organization are a total disaster. If they really want to fix the problem, start with the ownership and the front office.
The right coach could make it work. But he'd have to do some serious ego-cracking with a few players.
Exactly, but the Lions ownwership is not football smart enough to know what coach/management can do that. Sure, they'll hire a guy they "think" will turn it around, just like they thought Millen would know what he was doing. If their next major hire is a great one, it won't be because they are football savvy, which is why I say it will be luck. They are just as likely to hire another nitwit.
I am just old enough to remember coach George Wilson taking over the team in 1957 and winning the championship.
It's been a long dry spell.
It was a black day in Detroit when the Fords took over the team in 1961. Would you buy a car from a company that hasn't produced a decent team since 1962? It really makes you wonder about their product.
Sixty years of incompetence.
OK, I see what you mean.
Let me give you another example of a family of owners that couldn't hire the right people.
The Brown family of Cincinnati.
Finally, a few years ago, they stopped meddling and pretending to be football experts and hired a GM who knew what was going on.
Cincinnati has advanced along fine in the last few years.
A lot of people thought the Brown family wasn't capable of making a smart decision but in this case, they did.
Hopefully, the Ford family will suddenly say "Gee, we're sick of being embarassed and looking like freakin' idiots all the time. Let's hire someone good"
It could happen.
Cursed? What makes you say that?
What other team has ever:
* been penalized BEFORE the game-opening kickoff?
* lost on an NFL-record 63 yard field goal, kicked by a placekicker born with no toes on his kicking foot?
* had a player DIE ON THE FIELD DURING THE GAME?
* had another promising player RUN OVER BY A TRUCK WHILE MOWING HIS FRONT YARD?
* had the marquee-quality head coach they finally attracted DIE OF A HEART ATTACK BEFORE HE COULD MOLD THE TEAM IN HIS IMAGE?
* had a running back with the unlikely last name of "Looney" refuse to take a play into the huddle, telling the coach "If you want a messenger boy, call Western Union."
* had star players leave to sign with another team FOR LESS MONEY THAN THEY WERE OFFERED BY THE LIONS?
* had the arguably best, most exciting running back in league history retire while still in his prime, notifiying the team of his intention the day before the start of training camp, long after the draft?
* given up 9 interceptions in one game? (ok - this was before my time...)
Nah -- no curses here. (Except coming out of the mouths of us fans on gameday...)
I think I could beat the Aints at this point in time....
Well, I'm sure they've tried to hire who they thought would be good in the past, but they just don't know. It would be like them taking a football person and putting them in charge of Ford Motor Company. What are the chances the football person would make good hiring decisions? Would he really want to hire the right people? Sure, but since he doesn't know the auto industry and what he really needs in good managers, he would be shooting in the dark. If he hired a guy that turned out to be great, it would be luck. He's just as likely to get unlucky.
The Fords got "unlucky" with Millen. Hopefully, they'll have better luck next time.
Wow. That's some list you got going there. LOL
