Each year it gets harder and harder to locate Christmas wrapping paper with a Christian theme. You know, the designs we used to take for granted: Babe in a Manger, the Three Wise Men, Peace on Earth, etc.
I thought it would be useful to pool our resources as to what is available out there in stores and on the Web.
After a few hours on Google, I've found two designs that fit the bill:
Clearly my Google-foo skills are deficient. Anyone else have some good sources?
I'm starting to wonder if they might be right.
I'm not getting how the Petco answer is racist.
Unhelpful off the wall answer, maybe, but ~racist?~
Am I missing something?
Heh... Yes, we're arguing about whether it's OK to put lights and garland on it. I know tinsel is right ~out~.
I am with you...I am confused concerning the Petco comment, and wonder what the original poster meant by it...that is what I would like to know...
You, my FRiend are BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD....
make sure you ping me :)
Only about 5000 years worth of cultural conditioning derived from nearly constant persecution.
Hildy should be allowed a little slack, even if we assume the comment to be innocuous. Her people have even recently been through a lot.
Will do :~D
>This is a good post. I TOO wanted to get something CHRIST mas >and not just seasonal, and I looked at WalMart. They aren't >friendly to the Christmas crowd. If anyone knows where we can >get some Christmas Wrapping paper please respond. I'm willing >to print my own up on this Ink Jet....
Wow, the Walmarts up in Canada are chock full of explicit Christian Christmas goods. We're talking full hundred piece nativity kits here. And yes they even have Baby Jesus in a manger.
Hildy can have all the slack she wants... I just don't get it.
yes, you are missing something. In my original post I told how there was no place in my town that sold Hannukah items. The poster "suggested" I go to Petco...an ANIMAL STORE.
sounds similar to the WalMarts I shopat in Maryland.
Look in the yellow pages for a Christian bookstore. They carry Christian Christmas paper, cards, and more.
Thus, when Hildy mentioned she was having a hard time finding Haunakah decorations, someone out of the blue suggested she try the Petco, all those residual memories came to mind.
The comment was insensitive, at best.
I'm glad someone is finding it helpful! I have found a few leads thanks to some helpful Freepers.
OTOH, we've got a freakin' pulled post in a thread about wrapping paper! There must be a full moon out tonight. There just isn't any call for this.
No clue here. Understand there IS necessary defensiveness on our part. Further understand that there ARE a FEW (a few) FR members (not real FReepers) who get on any thread dealing with Israel or Jews in general and begin blindly bashing. That may be where her fear is coming from.
You NEVER know who your enemies are when you are are Judaeic or of Jewish descent. I pay close attention to ANY white supremacists who come near my turf, because the danger of history repeating itself is still very real, even here in the US. Auggie Kreiss tried setting up shop in my vicinity recently. He discovered a rather unified front against him. That is an ENORMOUS improvement over the science teacher I had back in high school in the same area, who was chased out by a bunch of complacent, arrogant cross burners- they burned one in his front yard. The guy was a CONSERVATIVE and I got into a LOT of fights over that....but their daughter was only a toddler and they left anyway. Mr Berkowietz was his name and he was a damned good teacher. It's a grudge I still hold against my adopted community. At least the reaction to Kreiss shows there HAS been some improvement over the past three decades.
In sum, it's not paranoia when everyone's REALLY out to getcha. Been there, experienced that - and not just for my genetic heritage - enough times (3) to recognize the truth in that statement. And miss WKRP in Cincinnati.
Actually, it was rats. Nazis liked dogs.
Go to any Catholic or Christian book store, supply store for the religious cards, etc. that you need.
I haven't been involved inthe argument, and really don't know either of you...........but I think this post is kind of mean.
Yeah - I got that it's not a helpful answer.... I just don't get it.
