Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

"Bothers" has been a term for them for quite a while, Rosie uses it too sometimes.

Yep, I've butted heads with all of them at one time or another. Been told "I hate you", and all that, but my response always was "Well, I love you, but I certainly don't like what you're doing right now!". That was usually followed by sending them to their rooms until they were in better moods. I always told them they could throw a fit if they liked, but I didn't have to watch it. ;o)
I usually let them argue their point, but if they ever got nasty or ugly sounding, the discussion was finished. When they calmed down, we'd continue the discussion. They've learned to be good negotiators.

I need to check our library to see if I have that option. Listening while you crochet is a neat idea! I enjoy listening to audio books when I'm driving around in the car.
How's that scarf going?

Just dropped #1 son at the airport in Boston this morning. He's on his way to Australia! He and his two housemates decided they wanted a great vacation before they finished Law School and had to deal with Bar Exams, first jobs, etc. One of them saw a tour advertised, then basically devised his own tour using the other as a guide! They figured their winter break would be a great time to go since it's summer down there! They're meeting at Kennedy in NYC, then flying from there to the West Coast, then on to Australia. He stayed up all night so he could sleep a lot on the plane. It will be morning when they arrive, and he wanted to be ready to roll!
They'll be in Australia for almost two weeks, then go over to New Zealand where they'll split the remaining time between the North and South Islands. We told him to be sure to look up Hobbiton. ;o) He said he wished that the Medusel set was still up; he'd love to see that!

Awesome! Now that's a way to spend your break. If he gets cool pictures, share!
I've always wanted to visit Australia. It's second on my alphabetized list of places I'd like to visit :-D

I'm gonna use that, if you don't mind. ;-)Feel free to do so. When they were little, they didn't have computers or any electronic gadgets in their rooms. All they could do was play with whatever toys were in there, or read. When they got bored being in there, their attitudes improved considerably! ;o)

OB and I took a three-week vacation to Australia, New Zealand, and ended up for a couple of days in Fiji. It was a very long time ago, but I'll never forget the thrill when we were just wandering around, turned a corner and there was the Syndey Opera House, lit up, it was the most beautiful site I'd ever seen. And the poinsettias, growing wild, incredible. They will have a wonderful time!! LSA

Another line they used when I made them mad was, "I don't like you." To which my response was, "Frankly I don't care if you like me or not. I wasn't put on this earth for you to like me, but I'm your Mom and you're gonna mind me!"
Paul said something interesting the other night. He said that he really appreciated that SirKit and I were not obsessive about his doing well in school, to the point where we harangued him all the time. He said, he'd likely have rebelled and done just the opposite. He said he had lots of friends from college who really resented their parents pushing them to go to certain schools and follow pre-designed paths. We did encourage them to live up to their potential, and tried to help them identify their strengths, likes and dislikes, but they chose their own majors and careers. We always told them that they were smart, and that we expected work that reflected that; that if they'd been stupid, we wouldn't have expected the same results. ;o)

It's second on my alphabetized list of places I'd like to visit :-D What's first on your list? We gave him our digital camera last night. He'd asked for an inexpensive one for Christmas, but we thought we'd check to see if there was one out there that would be more comfortable for me to use. We found a great deal on a Kodak Easyshare 730. It has a great HUGH viewfinder on the back that means I may not have to put on my glasses to see the picture! It's also a 5 megapixel, so that's the same as our old one.
We got all the accoutrements together for Paul last night, and were talking about our new camera, and laughing about him getting the hand me down, like we did with David a few years ago. He was confused. We had to explain to him that the Nikon was his to keep! He didn't realize that's what we were doing. He was pleased. So we'll get some good pics, and I'll post some here.

I didn't know that poinsettias grew wild in Australia! I can see how they would, with the climate, though.
We lived in Tallahassee FL, when SirKit was in Grad School, and on the corner, just as you turned into our street was a house with a HUGH bush in the front yard. Of course, when we first moved there in August, the bush was all green, but then as it got a little cooler, I realized that it was a poinsettia bush! It was almost 10' tall, and it was just beautiful!
The first time I ever saw a Hibiscus TREE was in Tampa. I couldn't believe my eyes at first! I'd never seen one larger than in a 10' pot! It was lovely.

It's a magazine.
How much does it cost?
A quarter.
I only got a nickel.
That's Life.

Heh, that's a good bit, too.
Returned from a morning meeting, now I think we're going out to lunch.

I didn't know that poinsettias grew wild in Australia! They're not live, but they're over running the Stormhands' household.
Wife and caught four small ones on sale at Lowes just after Thanksgiving (less than $2 each). We were given an additional five over the course of the holidays.
Now the challenge will be to convince Nana that they are expendable...
