The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I guess that is the hardest part of being a parent. Having to do things that break your heart for the benefit of your kids.

~sigh~

Describe the scene for us!

Who's meeting him at the airport? You and who else? Everyone?

So you're going to dinner out somewhere tonight? Is that like right when you pick him up or is there a time lapse? How does the timing work out?

Is he staying at a hotel somewhere?

Will you be together at 'new years' strike of midnight thing?

Is he going to church with you and the family?

Got it!

It'll be another week before I mail it. I want to be able to sit through the whole thing without interruption at least once.

:-D

I'm fixin' to try out an audio book in a few minutes. The library now has a service with NetLibrary that allows you to download CD quality audiobooks - they work for twenty-one days and then you have to renew if you aren't done.

Normally I'd rather just read, but since I've been crocheting...I figure it's worth a shot. Hey, it's free!

Good morning! ~sip~

Mmm...coffee with eggnog. Don't have much longer to enjoy that little pleasure.

Nifty! My mom is a big fan of audio books. She likes to listen to them when she exercises.

Heh...means more for us! ;-)

It's not that much thicker than real cream...which I also like in coffee.

Most of them still come on tape, and I'm not always where I can use something. I really like the idea of it just being in digital format! And it's a wma, so should play on my little portable dealie as well, if I wanted to go that route.

Mom and Dad are coming along to the airport. The theory is that way he can meet them without having to at the same time deal with meeting the mass o' bothers. Then we're supposed to go back and meet the rest... dinner will be later... he's staying with us... church is in the plans, yes.

Does eggnog freeze? You could freeze a carton to have in March or sometime when you really need it.

Sitting here in the airport. The first flight is running around 10 minutes behind but that should have no effect on the second one.
