The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm not starting out very well...got my clothes all loaded in the washers before realizing I didn't have a single quarter. I left 'em there and ran to the grocery, hoping no one would move them or be inconveniences. *sigh* All's well now. Wrapping presents. Need to call again and see if NOW they have Ben's address, which they probably don't. I know I can call them directly, but it's a little awkward calling your brother's mother-in-law's house. Or at least, it is fer me. ;-)

Ack! Oh well, it's started now. That's annoying, though.

They don't have a cell phone or anything so you could call directly? That is a pain. Well, you can always just keep the presents for you.

Banky!

No, no cell phone that I know of. Anne had one, but cancelled it when they moved out to NH.

Good morning! [sip]

A couple of thoughts, some or all of which may be completely wrong:

WRT the wife's computer: It doesn't seem likely that the Windows install has Office already in it. Aren't you talking about different sets of CD's? There's Windows XP Pro, and Office XP Pro-- different things. I really, really wish MS would stop naming them the same because it is really, really confusing.

Important question: Did her company provide new shrinkwrapped copies to install at home, or are they merely letting employees take their work copy home to install there?

If it is just the work copy, it is probably already registered with MS as having been installed on another machine and you'll be unable to register it again. This will disable it after some time. If it is the corporate edition without a registration key, it will work but it probably is a violation of the license.

If it really is a new copy with its own key, you can install Office Pro over the top of the old version of Office. No problem.

I would NOT recommend doing this with Windows XP Home upgrading to Windows XP Pro. It is theoretically possible, but will likely be more trouble-free to do an entirely NEW install of windows instead of the 'upgrade'.

I just got Matthew's Latina Christiana II student worktext, teacher's manual and instructional DVDs in the mail...thought the box would be lovely to send you back your items you lent me! So I have it all packed in the box and am waiting only for Matthew to finish his last test that his teacher is sending him through the mail (he missed his last Latin class because we went to a funeral.) After he finishes the test I'll send it all back to you.

I still have the original envelope you sent it all in! It has your return address which I assume is the same?

Unsupervised Children Involved in Brawl
By Matthew S****
12/20/2005

On Sunday, December 18, 2005 two young boys were involved in a dispute while their parents relaxed and drank coffee.

The conflict occurred in their living room in Bixby Oklahoma.

The two boys were fighting because the younger boy, Josh, was emitting gas.

The older boy. Matthew, said "It didn't smell like violets, more like tofu."

One of the neighbors said "They were fighting madly, badly, meanly, and extremely."

The brawl was resolved when their dad came and made them work on cleaning up their room.

Heh hehe! Actually, it was an English writing assignment...who what when where and how. He's supposed to have written it like it was a newspaper article.

Catch number two: the box I have for the boys in CA isn't big enough for the book. I can fit the other stuff, but not that...and I really hate to mail yet another box. Ain't cheap. Grrr. I realize I can buy boxes...just hoped to avoid that route, since it involves an extra trip, unless I mail everything from a Fed-Ex place or something and pack it there. I'm assuming shipping that way would be way, way more expensive, even for ground...'cause otherwise, that might be my best bet. I could go at nine at night and avoid lines like I'd hafta deal with even for the automatic thing at the post office.

Experts say women and children hardest hit. President Bush refuses to take responsibility for his inaction in the matter.

See if the folks down in the apartment office have an empty box about the size you need (take a tape measure with the dimensions you need). If they don't have one, check out the closest grocery store; they'll give you one for free, I'm sure!

I guess I can just send it in a manila envelope, taped to fit. That wouldn't cost too horribly much to send, I wouldn't think. And I have an extra...Jen gave me one to use for a present of Teresa's, but that ended up fitting in the box with everything else.
