They're going to a church that's nearer by, I take it?
What's a cantata? A sing-along or something? I'm prolly gonna feel stupid for asking...
Cantata = the church choir sings some really lousy collection of music. They can be really good, if the choir is good or the music is good. This was pretty much neither and since we weren't expecting it...
Yeah, closer by. One of the local churches had a big scandal, lost their pastor, and had to hire someone fast, so they hired a 30ish shaved-head pierced-ear dude who happens to be a really decent pastor. It's just down the hill in the next town and other than apparently really awful music in general, and hideous early-sixties church design, it's a good place.
Well...OK, then! ;-) Maybe a new music director will come on-board eventually.
No, he's a nice guy. We met him ages ago when he was running the youth program at a church a couple towns over. He just likes to push peoples' comfort levels and I was shocked that the blue-haired nosy-ladies (of both sexes) over at this church had, well, hired him.
Unfortunately they've got one of those "embedded" music directors who will be there until he's carried out in a coffin. Oh well! I don't go there, so I don't care.
Musical Forms - Cantata
The most important genre of vocal chamber music in the Baroque period; the principal musical constituent of the Lutheran service. Since the late 18th century the term has been applied to a wide variety of works, sacred and secular, mostly for chorus and orchestra, from Beethoven's cantatas on the death and succession of emperors to the patriotic Soviet cantatas of Shostakovich.

And so we have the definitive answer! ;-)
Thanks, ecurbh!
At your service. ;~D
I killed the thread!
I'm feeling stir crazy, but I don't have anywhere to go. *sigh* I don't have anything I really neeeeed, and it's icy and cold and I don't really wanna go out. I'm just tired of being IN.
Dittos re: MA. There are some folks here in MA who are conservative, and we are VEY lonely, but there are some on FR who believe that everyone in MA is a liberal nutcase.
I have a hard time not taking that personally. Which is silly, of course.
Turns out, that's terrific, because I'll have done the largest 4 swags, and all but four of the bows I need. And when we're finished making the other 11 swags, they're going to help me put them on the doors! WooHoo! I'll be done until Friday morning when we're going to start doing the inside of the Church. I'm in charge of the 10' tree that goes up to the side of the altar. I spent a LOT of time getting the lights just right on it last year, and didn't take them off, so they should be all ready to go this year!
Heh, I consider the source, then ignore them. ;o)
Mmmm...greenery. Kinda wish it woulda made sense to have a tree here - they do smell so nice! But since it's just me and the cats, and the cats would likely decide it was a big play toy, it's probably better this way. Plus they're kinda messy.
Another year, though!
Same here with "Floriduh". :-D
Some folks want to saw us off at the Georgia border and let us float away. Charming!
We're fixing to go to the Mall for the kids to get some shopping done, and for me do to a couple of returns. I need to get an Asian Vegetarian Cookbook for the #2 son who has decided to be a Vegetarian. Of course, if his older brother makes Puerco Pibil while he's here, he'll go off the wagon for a night. ;o) The Mall is open until 11pm tonight!! Since none of us has to be out early, it's fine to do the later in the evening thing. Most families will be home getting their kids ready for school tomorrow.
We haven't heard from Paul; we thought he was coming in this evening. He has a key so he can get in. We'll call him while we're out to let him know where we are if he comes home to an empty house.
School is out for two weeks here starting tomorrow.
Becky is thrilled about it, as you can imagine. ;-)
Alyson gets no such break, except for the 26th.
I'm fixin' to start cooking here. Gonna make fudge tonight, and start the springerle (it has to dry for twelve hours before baking. Tomorrow I'll make probably everything else, though the last cookie type, whatever that may be, may wait until Tuesday morning. Want to get all three packages out on Tuesday...hopefully they'll arrive on time!
I also don't yet have Ben's present. I got the shipping notice mid last week, so if I'm lucky, it arrives tomorrow. *fingers crossed*
I'm gonna cheat and make these.
I just made some of those... the sugar cookies with the red and green sprinkles. They are yummy! We also cut open the nicely ripened pineapple! Mmmm-mmm good!
I just love them because the kids can help without making a huge mess.
We just put the first batch of reindeer cookies in the oven. :-D
The girls are watching The Wizard of Oz.
