In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
malversation \mal-ver-SAY-shun\ noun
1. misbehavior and especially corruption in an office, trust, or commission *
2. corrupt administration
*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
A picture of bill clinton appears next to this word in the dictionary
Example sentence:
The governor was finally convicted of malversation, after years of rumors about kickbacks and illegal contracts.
Did you know?
The form "mal-" is often a bad sign in a word, and "malversation" is no exception. In Middle French, "mal-" (meaning "bad," from the Latin word for "bad," "malus") teamed up with "verser" ("to turn, handle," from the Latin verb "vertere," "to turn ") to create "malverser," a verb meaning "to be corrupt." This in turn led to "malversation," which was adopted by English speakers in the mid-16th century. Some other "mal-" descendants are "maladroit" ("inept"), "malcontent" ("discontented"), and "maltreat" ("to treat badly").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

I'm not real big on cabbage - but I would love to know how you do that as an appetizer.........I need a finger food for a function on Sunday, that I am NOT looking forward to attending.
the appetizer isn't the cabbage. that is for me. the kids won't eat it. the appetizer is the kielbassa sliced, drizzled with honey and baked. i put toothpicks in to make it easy to eat. and bake it in something that is nice enough to put on the table as is.
My hubby would probably like the dinner at your house better than the one here-he loves sausage and cabbage.
I hope all is okay with xshub-does he have a family history of those type of problems?
I'll take the ham and bean soup, yum! I haven't made that since last winter, and it sounds good. If the weather is not so terrible tomorrow, maybe I'll stop after work and get a package of ham pieces and a couple of pork hocks and make some.
How times have changed. When FDR reacted to Pearl Harbor by declaring war, and seeing the need to defend ourselves, no one ever accused him of malversation.
no fam history, just precautionary. it has been probably 8 years or so since he last had one.
Thank you.........I think I could like that!!!!
I freeze my ham bones after cooking one, and always have some ham in the freezer.......makes it easy :)
What a hoot! I've gotta get me one of them.
We dodged the bullet on the snow, dammit-it is 23 and just a little ice on the ground. It is apparently worse going into the city, though-hubby called while he was stuck in the traffic by a malfunctioning light at a major highway intersection. He said it looked like there was a mile of cars in front of and behind him and no one directing traffic.
That sounds just peachy - NOT
cold here too. no snow til late tonight, will probably still be going on during AM rush, so i am imagining it will be a Friday snow day for xskids. wonder if SG is frozen solid down in TN, or lost in the 1/2 inch snowdrift they got down there... ; )
How do you handle snowdays? Do you have a sitter, rely on xsteen, or do one of you take the day off?
xsteen has been my childcare provider for entire summers in the past, so she is fine. i am ok with xsboy staying home with xsbrownie, since he is 14 also. but i work from home on Fridays, so it won't be an issue. i would stay home if xsbrownie were home and the other two were not off. and if that isn't possible, there is always DADDY'S OFFICE. they have all spent a lot of time there in the past : )
Sounds like a good set of plans & backups. My older two are ok home by themselves, but I can't take my twins to work during a normal workday. They are individually very high energy (and noise), but with the synergy, they could be their own demolition company!
Gosh, xs, let us know on Friday how xshub is doing. Hopefully, he'll have it done early in the morning.
daddy is the boss, AND he has a TV in his ofc, so they have always been ok there. i could never bring them to mine for more than a few minutes, just if i needed to pick something up. and i imagine 2 at that age would be a few handsful!
It would please me greatly if the wind would calm down a bit-I went out to put the trash cans out for the garbage service and the wind cut right through my jacket to chill me to the bone in the time it took to haul the trash the 30 feet from the garage to the edge of the road-brrrrr-I'm drinking another cup of coffee before I force myself to get in the car and go to work.
he's assuming it is on, come hell or high water (or snow), bc he figures hospitals don't shut down. i wouldn't be so sure. he is looking forward to the nice sleep. he remembered how soundly he slept for the last one which was about 8-9 years ago.
Poor guy, I hope I never have to go through anything like that. Now i am unmarried, I have nobody who can make me!
Good luck to him.
